Do Franciscan Friars get to see their parents and relatives? And if so, how often?

Question is in the title. Also, do they get vacation time and if so, how much?
 
Yep. I used to be an O.F.M.
Family, vacations, the all of it.
 
I live in Barranco (Lima-Peru) - there is a Franciscan Convent 4 blocks from my home - Once they told me they can travel to their countries (most of the are Spaniards) every 5 years.
 
There are lots of different types of Franciscans, some of whom are more strict than others. Therefore, it’s not possible to give a specific answer. Some may get to visit their families several times a year. Others may not see their families for years. It just depends on the community.
