I know Jesus said when he was talking to the rich man that you must love God AND love your neighbour in order to get to heaven… But for most of history, most people didn’t have access to information regarding God, meaning this first requirement would be impossible to meet.

I’m reading this report on BBC News today, about the troubles our ancestors endured many years before God even revealed himself to Abram. Surely these people couldn’t all have been expected to worship God?

And even after God revealed himself, and gave us his Commandments, it took a while for the news to spread. For example, my Chinese friend’s grandparents probably never came across a preacher or a Bible in their lives, so I’d like to think God might overlook the fact that they never believed in Him if they were basically good otherwise.

Even today, there are lots of people who realistically have little chance of ever getting access to the information required to meet the standards that most Churches deem necessary to get into heaven.
