Do I cross myself before or after Communion?

This may sound silly, but a friend of mine asked me a question that I could not answer and thought I’d bring it up here. After one receives communion is it appropriate to cross yourself immediately after? Or, is it more appropriate to cross yourself ‘before’ you received communion? To add to the question, are you supposed to genuflect just before you reach the Priest to receive?
 
General Instruction of the Roman Missal:

“ When receiving Holy Communion, the communicant bows his or her head before the Sacrament as a gesture of reverence and receives the body of the Lord from the minister” (160).
Liturgy

As long as you make the recommended sign of reverence as stated in the norms of the General Instruction of the Roman Missal (head bow), you can make an act of personal piety (e.g., sign of cross) before and/or after receiving communion.
