Do I have to get ashes if I go to mass today?

Dw wants me to go to mass with her tonight. Can I attend but skip the ashes?
 
But why? Even if you are not Catholic, many Protestant churches also do the ashes.
 
I don’t like being touched by strangers, especially near the eyes
