I have some really bad and embarassing sins to get off my soul such as lustful thoughts and other things such as that. When confessing do I have to address them specifically or just say something like: “for all the bad things I’ve done that I’m very ashamed of” because I’ve known the priest at my church since I was 4 and I’m 15 now so I don’t think I could ever say everything specifically to him because it’s so embarrassing.
Thankyou so much, God bless!

p.s. please pray for me to study hard, concentrate and get good grades I’m my exams. Thankyou ❤️

Number and type - as well as you can recall. Example (only):

“Lust on three occasions. Envy twice. Masturbation three times. Gossip once.”

And we conclude with “For these and any sins which I may have forgotten…”

You must confess whatever would change the nature of the sin, for example if it relates to a particular commandment, for example if it’s the sixth commandment (chastity) as in this case, you must say whether this and say if it was just thoughts only or also physical actions and whether it was with yourself only or with another person. If it was another commandment like stealing you’d have to say that also. It’s also important to say how many time as much as one can remember that you have committed that sin. Perhaps go to another parish for confession?

Yes it is all a part of the healing process and God forgiving you. Priests have heard it all before and you definitely aren’t alone in lustful thoughts. Sins of the flesh are the most common. You can start out a little vague talking about lustful thoughts. If the Priest wants you to go into more detail, then he will advise you to delve a little deeper. Just think of it like going to the doctor. To be healed, you need to be as honest as possible and the doctor (the Priest) will ask for clarification if needed. I hope that helps. I did my first Confession last summer. Just came into the Church and got confirmed back in September 2019. Will be praying, Rosepeach.

Okay Thankyou! I’m thinking of going to a different parish and saying something like: “I ask forgiveness for this this and lust” would that be ok

I can promise you that there is nothing new undef the sun. There is no such thing as a new sin and your priest have heard it all before. I have heard priests say the same thing, and especially sins with regards to lust is very, very common, especially these days. Most people struggle or have struggled with these sins, naturally.

With regards to sexual sin, I know very well what a great shame they bring. But always keep very close to your heart that even though you’ve sinned and feel bad about yourself. Even if your own heart condemns you, remember that God doesn’t condemn you. God loves you so so much, even so much that he chose to die on the cross in order to save you and free you from your sins. Know that He would’ve done it again even just for the sake of the salvation of ONE soul. Always remember that.

God is waiting for you in confession and He longs to forgive you. God longs to keep you close and let Him love you. God loves you endlessly and His mercy endures forever. Always keep that close to your heart.

The Devil often tries to tempt us into thinking that we’ve sinned so grave that there is no mercy. That is a huge lie, perhaps the biggest lie ever. Know that no matter how you feel about yourself, you are not your sins and they don’t define you. God has seen you on your darkest and He still loves you endlessly.

God gave us the sacrament of confession because He knew we would need it. He knew we were gonna sin and fall, and therefor He is ready to help us back on track. He longs to forgive you and free you from the burden of sin.

I will pray for you. God bless!

I also wanted to add: you have to state what sin you’ve committed in confession.

Just say something like this:

“It’s been X long since my last confession. I confess that I have masturbated X times and I have also had lustful thoughts.”

Also, see these links about confession:
and
.

If it gives you any comfort, I will also be attending confession tomorrow because of sins regarding lust.

Also keep in mind that the priest is a sinner too and by no means perfect. He won’t judge you or look down on you.
