Hi everyone, so I just have a quick question: As a previously baptized adult being Received/Confirmed into the Church next Saturday, do I need a sponsor?

I ask because I’d been thinking I didn’t because I’d already been baptized, but someone just told me that that was wrong and that I do need a sponsor. My RCIA director hasn’t mentioned it to me that I can recall, and hasn’t asked whether or not I have one.

Typically people bring confirmed have a sponsor. But the best person to answer your question would be your RCIA director. Perhaps he/she is planning to serve as your sponsor.

Congratulations on your upcoming confirmation!

Yes, a sponsor is required. The tradition goes back all the way into the second and third centuries when one of the requirements to be brought into the Church was to have another Christian sponsor you. In situations where one cannot be found, usually one of the instructors for RCIA steps in, although a person can only sponsor one individual per confirmation.

Congratulations on your upcoming confirmation!

God Bless,

It’s quite bizarre that your RCIA director didn’t tell you.
I’d think you do.
