Do I need an annulment?

Hi,
My question is…If I have been married out of the church and divorced, My ex husband was not a Christian man, do I need to seek an annulment? I am planning on getting re married BUT this time in the church , to a Christian man who is not Catholic.

Dear Chelle,

The fact that you are a Catholic and married outside of the Church does mean that such a marriage is invalid. But the Church will have to objectively ascertain that fact. This shouldn’t take long. I would suggest that you contact your priest soon so the process can begin.
