Do I need to confess this?

I am wondering if I need to confess not talking to my brother and sil about the Church’s stance on IVF. They recently went through this and just found out they are pregnant. My brother is not a practicing Catholic. I never mentioned how I felt about it and why the Church states IVF is wrong, now I am feeling I am somehow responsible for their sin. What do you think?

I doubt it.

Couples undergoing this are often so anxious for a child that they’d be unlikely to cease and desist just because someone else says it’s wrong, especially when it’s socially acceptable.

You probably should have said something when they said they were beginning IVF, but IMNAAHO it’s not confession country. We are not responsible for each other’s sins.

If in doubt, I’d mention it to the priest and ask his view 🙂

if we are aware that someone is sinning, often we do have a responsibility of speaking up about it. I don’t know if that’s mortal or venial sin. I think it’s safest to simply ask a priest in Confession.
 
I don’t think it would be a sin unless you gave them the idea or pushed them to do this.

If they brought the issue up telling you that they were going to have IVFyou should have told them that it was wrong.if you knew but they didn’t mention it I don’t think you are responsible.You can be expected to go around telling everybody what they are doing wrong.If you are a priest its your duty to tell your parishioners perhaps even give a sermon on the subject if you feel many people are doing it and they don’t knnow its wrong.Confess this sin if you were at fault.
