Do I need to go to confession?

Good morning,

I got drunk last night. I did not intend to but I did and I was very drunk. I was at home and did not drive (I NEVER drive when I drink) but I need to know if I should go to confession today. I am seeing a variety of opinions on the subject.

I have newly come back into the Church and am trying to get rid of some of these behaviors and I see I still have work to do in this area. I just don’t want to have a sin that needs to be addressed in confession on my conscience.

Hi,

If you didn’t intend to drink excessively, then it isn’t a sin. But you are morally obligated to avoid such situations in which you might. This could mean not drinking at all if you determine that you are addicted.’’
