Today is the Assumptuon of Mary so May God be blessed for this. However do I need to go to mass today because of if. Can I go to a 6pm Mass and still have it count?
And this goes for all Holy Days of Obligation in the US excepting Holy Christmas (being the holiest of all holy days of obligation - remember, Easter always falls on a Sunday, so is not considered a holy day of obligation) and the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of Mary (as it is our patronal feast day - though, if Dec. 8 falls on a Sunday, the solemnity is moved to Dec. 9, and the obligation is abrogated). If the Assumption falls on a Saturday or Monday, in the U.S. the obligation is waived. Just out of curiosity, I checked around and it seems Masses are very few this morning.
The vespere Masses (after 4pm) are for the Sunday obligation, but as I understand it the readings could be from the feast of the Assumption.
Did you read your parish bulletin? If you don’t have one handy, check your parish’s website.Today is the Assumptuon of Mary so May God be blessed for this. However do I need to go to mass today because of if. Can I go to a 6pm Mass and still have it count?
This is the info our parish received from the Archdiocese:If the Assumption falls on a Saturday or Monday, in the U.S. the obligation is waived. Just out of curiosity, I checked around and it seems Masses are very few this morning.

It is Joan of Arc being visited by an an Angel representing the voices she heardLoving Discipline, what is that a picture of in your signature?
I agree. We should stop trying to make things more “convenient.” Honestly, one hour for Mass isn’t asking too much.I do wish that Holy Days of Obligation could simply be kept for the day they are on. I find it bizarre that while friends are keeping the Assumption on a Saturday, other parts of the world are keeping it on Sunday. It also places travellers in a difficult position. it just doesn’t seem the same when the Ascension is kept on a Sunday either.
