Do I need to pray out loud when asking Mary or other Saints to intercede?

I understand when I pray to God, I can do so silently and He will hear me. I also have read when renouncing satan or evil spirits, I must to so audiably as they cannot hear my thoughts.

When I pray to Mary (say, through a rosary or general prayer) or ask for a Saint to intercede for me (say St. Christopher for my safe travels), does that prayer need to be audiable for it to be heard, or can they hear my private thoughts?
