Hi everyone,

I have been doing some research on the internet but cannot seem to find the answer. If I was Roman Catholic but was later received (not confirmed) into the Episcopal Church , if I wanted to go to confession would I need to re-convert for the sacrament to be valid? If I wanted to return to Catholicism for good would I have to convert or am I still considered a Catholic since I had already been baptized, made first communion and was confirmed in Catholicism and was briefly received into the Episcopal Church?

I am especially wanting to go to confession and would like to know if I can go now and if it would be valid.

Thank you for any help you can offer.

You do not need to re- convert. Once Catholic, always Catholic.

Go see your priest, tell him what you have written here, confess your sins and all will be good.

Welcome back!! 🙂

If you mean, can I come back to Catholicism? I agree, once a Catholic always a Catholic. If you mean you trusted Jesus Christ as your savior in Catholicism, and then went to an Episcopalian Church, then came back. Why is there a need to trust Jesus Christ as savior again in the Episcopalian Church and then again back in the Catholic Church? Is not Christ Lord over all His body?

Yes you are Catholic. Go to confession. You also might want to go through the rcia program just to better understand the teachings of Jesus as handed down through His Church. Or ask for book suggestions that might help you with that. Or just simply talk to a priest. Welcome Home!

I’m so confused as to why so many of these posts end up under Traditional Catholicism. Anyway, just set up an appointment with a priest and go to confession. That’s it, you’re back. The fact you WANT to go to confession is a sign of grace, by the way.

Isnt that just the best, Gods Mercy, just come back and your back. He is so Good.👍

Never hesitate, just go. If you need clarification, make an appointment to talk to the priest. Welcome home.

One of my friends gave me a bunch of worry about this and I told him to just go to confession and the priest will say “welcome back” … and afterwards … my friend said, the priest said “Welcome back”.

Go to Confession and follow the advice of the Priest. If I was in your position, I’d also contact the authorities in the Episcopal Church and inform them that I was leaving their communion to join the Catholic Church.

I hope you respond to the grace of God and return to the One True Church. Remember: Jesus founded only one Church - the Catholic Church. I hope you return and receive the fulness of truth.

The Sacrament of Baptism leaves an indelible mark. As an earlier poster stated, “Once Catholic, always Catholic.” Find your nearest Catholic parish to speak to a priest. He can administer the Sacrament of Reconciliation and you can be registered as a parishioner.
Welcome back!

Of course not; the Church does not recognize “conversion” to protestantism. All you need to do is to go to confession.
