I am afraid that I haven’t confessed all my sins (or details of sins, some say they were seperate sins). I would like to go to confession tomorow, but I would also liku. more time to think about how to confess this and do I need to confess this. Can I go to the normal confession tommorow and confess only sins that happened since last confession? I will not have enough time to discuss it with priest. It’s complicated… So can I mention these things from confession in some other confession after studying a little to find out do I have to?
SORRY FOR BAD ENGLISH?

List what you can remember, I also fear that sins of the past I have forgotten.

I like to say after my sins, For these sins and all the sins of my life I am truly sorry.

Maybe you could go to confession tomorrow, confess what you know and tell the priest you are making an appointment for a more complicated situation.
I’m sure the priest would understand and guide you

Never delay going to confession, if you need it!

Whatever anxieties of confusions you have you can mention to the priest in the confessional, and he will handle it… and usually quite quickly. His response will take much less time than you may take explaining the issue!

As for you particular concern about previous sins, the only ones which **must **be mentioned in this confession are where you might have **deliberately ** omitted a mortal sin in a confession. Other forgotten sins are less urgent - but for your own peace of mind just mention that you have some concerns and let the priest guide you (as the previous posters have explained).

I always end my confession with, “For these and all my past sins, I seek forgiveness.” I figure this covers anything I might have forgotten in the past.

Any mortal sin that was not told in confession and was a simple mistake of forgetfulness, is also forgiven even tho not mentioned.

As long as the confession is a sincere one by intending to say all mortal sins, all mortal sins are forgiven…those mentioned and those not mentioned. A sincere confession takes away all mortal sin.

Later, if a person realizes that they in fact did forget to mention a mortal sin, then in the next confession this must be told and that it was forgotten in the last confession.

There is never an obligation to confess venial sins.

May the God of hope fill you with every joy.

Why don’t you just ask your priest?

As a convert, I have maybe less inhibitions with chatting with my priest in the confessional than cradle Catholics, I don’t know, but in some conversations it seems maybe that’s the case. I tell him stuff and sk him to help me discern. He is a great confessor!

The point is, you are making effort to clean up your past for the benefit of your future.

My son is heading to his first confession this week; He is converting to the Church praise God! I told him “Just list everything you can remember and if you are stumped, ask Father to help you. Just speaks in English and don’t worry about “Catholic jargon”. Seek god and utter the contrition of your heart. Don’t hide anything and don’t try to make yourself feel good about what you did.”

OP: I think you are doing very well trying to discern and seek out how to confess. That process is a beautiful thing in and of itself. But don’t wait to confess the things you know are sin while you figure out the rest. Wade right in and give it your best, this time and then later as well.

🙂
