The Cohenim (singular: Cohen) as they are called still have certain functions.
Redemption of the First Born Son is one of them.
In this case, the animal sacrifice is commuted to five silver shekels–in the USA, 5 silver dollars, which are given to charity.
They are also called upon to solemnly bless the congregation at services, holding both hands in the “Live long and prosper” gesture popularized by Leonard Nimoy (himself a non-practicing Cohen).
I’m sure they have other duties, but I don’t know what they are.
