Do Jews and Atheists Believe They Will Go To Heaven By Rejecting Jesus?

Exactly. When the Church speaks of “rejecting Christ” it means “knowingly reject Christ”. That is, a person who has come to understand that Jesus is in fact God incarnate and that he is the messiah and then rejects him, is in sin. A person who has never come to that realization has not sinned. The bible (and the Catechism) says that these people will be judged according to their deeds, the same as Christians will be.

WHY would somebody do that? WHY would someone KNOWINGLY reject something they believed was true?
 
I don’t know, but it happens. Enslavement to sin, maybe? Remember what James said: “The devils also believe and tremble.”

I hear you, I just don’t understand how someone can KNOW/BELIEVE something is true, and still reject it. It boggles the mind.

Many years ago, when I was not a religious Jew yet, a Christian missionary challenged me to pray and ask God if Jesus was the savior. I took him up on his challenge.

Not only did I pray to find out, but I studied the NT thoroughly. The answer I got to my prayer was that I was to worship Hashem (God), and Him alone. I thought this was pretty odd, considering I was not religious in any sense of the word back then (even though I was raised as a Jew)!

To make a long story very short, the challenge made to me by that missionary not only led me to discover that Jesus was not the messiah, but the experience led me to become a religious Jew.

But what if I’d chosen to reject what God was saying to me? I can’t even imagine!
 
I don’t think heaven is an issue for those outside of Christianity and Islam, so it’s a mute point. They don’t think they will go to someone else’s afterlife. They are not hoping to get in on a loophole to something they don’t believe exists.

That is sort of like asking a Catholic if they think their Catholic beliefs will keep them from being eaten by Godzilla when they visit New York city…well, there IS no Godzilla, so they weren’t really worrying about it.

If you don’t believe in heaven, you probably aren’t spending time thinking about how to get there. And if you don’t believe that Jesus was the savior of mankind, you probably aren’t putting a lot of energy into rejecting him, it’s not personal.

People who say they are Atheists and do put a lot of energy into such, I think they have other issues. They are probably hurt or disgruntled believers who hope it’s not true, but deep down believe it is. For them it is personal.

One of the examples that I have seen is related to sin. Imagine a Catholic has a same-sex attraction. Now, the homosexual lifestyle is a sin,a nd the person KNOWS that the Catholic Church is the True Church. However, they have the choice of difficult self-sacrifice and sefl-control vs. an easier life of fun that is against the laws of God. The choose the life of sin.

To your other post, perhaps God told you to stay a Jew because in the long run, you would do more of His work. Perhaps ahd you become Christian, you would have been another bottom in a pew and not done the good you do in pro-life or other works.

it happens, but very rarely. most people, regardless of bias, will not reject something they believe is true…especially if it concerns their safety, salvation or well-being.

Well, I think God told me to stay a Jew because for me, as a Jew, that is what He created me to do, keep Torah!

But you have a point…I’ll say that whenever I take part in pro-life pickets, the abortophiles assume I’m Catholic (or at least, some kind of Christian)…its actually funny sometimes, esp. when they tell me “keep your religion off these women!” 😃
