Do Jews believe in honor killing? If not, should they? since the Holy Torah says:

Leviticus 21:9

“If the daughter of a priest be taken in whoredom, and dishonour the name of her father, she shall be burnt with fire.”

Latin Vulgate Bible

if you are going to post such a question, why not at least post what your own religion is? do you have something to hide?

  1. No.
  2. I suggest you google the words ‘death penalty’ and ‘Judaism’.
There’s a nice, brief explanation here.

No.

Answer in Kaninchen’s link with a good summary of death penalties. You can read the teachings of Issa Ibn Maryam as well;)

Are you a Jew?

The link you are suggesting is not an authentic one. But it says:
“During the period when Jewish law operated as a secular as well as a religious jurisdiction, Jewish courts** very rarely imposed the death penalty**.”, and “In the 54 years that Israel has existed as an independent state, only one person has been executed. This person was Adolf Eichman, a Nazi war criminal with particular responsibility for the Holocaust.”

If it is true then even the death penalty was imposed rarely or only one person was executed during the whole 54 years, it was IMPOSED. Which means the imposers (Jews) still hold it valid.

But my question is not what a particlur Jewish Government or Governments believe or act on death penalty.

Let me rephrase my question. Should Jews believe in honor killing since Holy Torah has commanded them and there is no abrogation of this law found in any book of Old testament?

Should they abondened the Holy Torah’s commandments despite the fact that Torah is the most important Holy book?

Religiously, Jews as a people who must or supposed to be followers of Holy Torah, what they should do?

Jews hold two “books” to be sacred and guides to behavior, the Torah and the Talmud. These must be read together. Here is a link that may help you understand that this is probably the wrong forum for your question. You may wish to find a forum for Orthodox Jews and ask your question there.

Indeed.

Eichmann was a special case.

You misunderstand how Judaism ‘works’. An analogy would be to a society that is set up with a set of foundational laws (Torah in Judaism) together with inspired works of insight for interpretation (in Judaism, the ‘Prophets’ and the ‘Writings’ which, together with the Torah, make up the ‘Tanakh’ - what Christians organize differently and call the ‘Old Testament’).

Then came the ‘cases’ to be decided under the Law (with insights from the inspired works) and, slowly but surely, there builds up a whole world of case law, legal philosophy (jurisprudence) and legal argument so any case that comes before a court has to be argued within the context not just of the foundational laws but all the precedent and argument (the interpretations, precedent and argument we call ‘Oral Torah’).

Now, this was an analogy and analogies should not be pressed too far but it is certainly true that one can’t understand Judaism by just reading the Torah.

The issue is specifically what is an honor killing. It is my understanding, and I will be corrected if I am wrong, that an honor killing is done because the victom (and they are innocent of anything deserving death) has done something that makes the family (usually the father) look bad.

Judaism would not allow this in any way, shape, or form. Even though i am not Jewish, I can tell that the cases where a death penulty is called for, even in the harshest of the old codes, is not very common. The specific case pointed out is a very limited one indeed. First, she would need to be the daughter of a priest. Note that there are no Jewish priests at this time. Second, the dishonor done, according to the earlier parts of the passage, have to do with her father’s standing as a priest. In other words, the people will question his holiness if this happens. Third, she must be an actual prostitute. I may be missing something, but often in the OT, this means priestess of a pagan diety. Often, they are called temple prostitutes.

Besides, Jaudaism, as pointed out, has a written part and an oral part that works with it. If you are saying that Jews defy God because they do not participate in the barbaric, brutal, anti-woman act of honor killing, you do not understand what God wants of us.

So with all these conditions, such a ‘prostitute’ “shall be burnt with fire.”, as per Holy Torah?

Is this what you are saying?

If she is a daughter of a priest who is now a prostitute, the Torah commands it. But, I again point out that there are no more priests in Judaism and this term for prostitute may only refer to one who services a temple of a pagan god.

In other words, there is no chance of it being allowed today.

lol

that’s funny?
Yes your reply was very funny the way you tried to answer a question which was not asked.

You said:
**

It means in this case such a Jewish ‘prostitute’ “shall be burnt with fire.”, as per Holy Torah?

Then you started saying:
"But, I again point out that there are no more priests in Judaism and this term for prostitute may only refer to one who services a temple of a pagan god."

This is not what Iasked in my OP. Hence it was…lol.
