The last issue of St. Anthony Messenger, a Franciscan publication, had a cover article on labyrinth-walking. I was so horrified by this–I am a convert from the Episcopal church, where such practices are especially popular on the lunatic fringe–that I threw the issue away without reading it. In the past, I have always associated such things with New Age mysticism and pagan worship. But I heard that there is a labyrinth in the designs at Chartres, and now I am curious. Is there a place for labyrinth-walking within legitimate Christianity?
