Do LDS openly acknowledge that their religion teaches the belief of multiple gods?

I don’t want to do that. Tell me how I got that wrong, please?
Catholics do not believe they are 3 separate personages.

Jesus is the face God allowed us to see. In the Old Testament, Moses was only allowed to see God’s back, although he could talk to him. God revealed himself as Jesus, by showing his human form who lived and died for us. The Holy Spirit is the emanation from God. It is not a dove. It is like a dove who descends apon man and reveals and gives life, and proceeds from the Father and the Son. All are ONE.

What do you mean by this?

(Not attacking or anything. I’m just pretty well read on the topic of the Trinity, so I’m always curious on how people define the Trinity and how/why they use certain words, such as “separate”).

Finally! A breakdown of Mormonism I could understand! Thank you SO much! I’ve tried on these forums SO many times but get chastized too much. I may not agree with your views, but now I get the basics!!

I wish your fellow LDS posters could follow suit 🙂

Well they are separate but not. The Father is not the Son and the Son is not the Holy Spirit, but the Father is God, the Son is God and the Holy Spirit is God. I just don’t think of the Holy Spirit as having a form like a person. Jesus was the human incarnation of God. God the Father is so holy that he doesn’t even have a name we are supposed to utter. That is why we say Lord. He is the great I AM. (And he certainly wasn’t a man once!!)

You aren’t talking ‘Trinity’ here, but modalism.

Excuse me, but which post are you calling a 'breakdown of Mormonism you can understand?" The post that claims to be one, or the post where I corrected almost everything?

So how is that different from what I said?

You do not know what my church believes and spreading this garbage confirms to me those who have a agenda to state for my church what it believes. Trust me, the church is doing quite well by itself without the need your help, particularly when what you say is false.
Ill admit that i dont know a lot obout what the LDS teaches.

Does the LDS believe that God the father and Jesus are seperate beings? If so do they beleive that jesus is a god?

This is what I’m wondering as well.

Thanks Christine for explaining. I think that much of the confusion on the Trinity comes when people generally don’t define the words they are using. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are distinct Persons, and “distinct” means separate. However, they are “inseparable” in a different way from the way that they are distinct. There is nothing wrong with saying that they are separate Persons, if we state what is meant by “separate”, especially so that we don’t imply that they are not of one essence.

No I’m not. The all exist together at the same time.

I’m sorry, Christine, but you are using all the Modalist buzz words here. Jesus is NOT the 'face God allows us to see." That is classic modalist thought; that God is one Person with three 'faces:" that God shows Himself in different forms according to need; that the Holy Spirit is an 'emanation from" God…ALL, as you claim here, are “ONE.”

Later, you say…“they all exist together at the same time.” Please. Ask your priest or some other Catholic theologian about this. Don’t go by me.

But don’t tell me that I don’t understand the Trinity because YOU don’t.

According to everything I have been told by Catholics, the Three are separate Beings, sharing one 'substance." That “substance” seems to be something…greater, or different from…the thing that Mormons believe unites the three, but still, whatever unites them into One God, they are still very much three Persons. And they are different ALL THE TIME. The Athanasian creed, confusing as it is to one raised LDS, does describe this concept best:

,“and the catholic faith is this; that we worship one God in Three Persons and Three Persons in one God, **nether confusing the Persons nor dividing the substance.” **

Not A God, but God. The Second member of the Godhead.

The thing that unites the Three, we believe, seems to be unity of purpose, and a…something…that makes them God. It doesn’t seem to be quite the same thing as the ‘substance’ that Catholics say it is.

How about Love?

Your descriptions divide the Persons of the Trinity. A clear indication you still haven’t quite “got it”. I think it is great you try though.
Well, according to the Athanasian Creed, I’m SUPPOSED to divide the persons. Just not…the substance. 😉

One correction here: Trinitarians believe that the Three are separate Persons, but are one Being, not three Beings. “Being” is also translated as “Essence”, “Substance”, etc. These words are better in my opinion, because all too often, we will interpret “one being” as “one human being=one human person”, and this causes a lot of confusion. So, if by “Being” you mean “person”, then yes, they are three distinct Persons. However we also have to understand then in Trinitarian lingo, they are “one Being”.
