It is my understanding given what the Holy Father Benedict XVI, and most all the Bishops of America have said over the last year in if you take a position outside of the teaching of the Church you have Excommunicated yourself and are not to present yourself to receive the Eucharist until you have made a confession and a public recant of your stance. So that there would be not confusion On if you and the Church are in agreement.

So so sum up basically any of are public officials that have come out in support of Abortion ned to make a public confession stating they were wrong.
Why not just publically excommunicate then outright? Their facilitating murder makes them murderers, and they should be removed from the Church.

It makes the Church appear to be ‘seeker-friendly’ when they are so loose on enforement.

What more would you have them say? they have said if you have taken a public stance that is in opposition to to that of the Church you have excommunicated yourself. By make that statement in this way they have left the Door open for those people to correct themselves and make and return to full communion.

Some Protestants do believe in saints in heaven praying for the church. Lutheranism to my knowledge de-emphasizes invoking their intercession, but doesn’t deny it altogether.

However, in the Episcopalian/Anglican churches, they are invoked, especially in the Anglo-Catholic / “high church” or broad church parishes. Usually as prayers in the collects. Devotion to saints is considered more of a private belief, however, one that is much more optional / less normative than Catholicism.

I would like to see the Catholic Church publically excommunicate them, and list their names in a public address to the world.

“The following people are hereby excommunicated from the Holy Roman Catholic Church for their participation in facilitating infinticide by way of abortion…”

If we are all called upon to be Saints, wouldn’t it make sense to act like Saints and have no fellowship with wicked people?

I think it’s done more out of respect than devotion. I’ve never heard any Lutheran pastor tell the people to pray to God through Saints, or wear charms depicting them.
Pretty much right. I don’t know about charms, but since my diagnosis of prostate cancer over three years ago, I have kept a picture of St. Peregrine in my wallet, not to seek his intercession, but as an example to me of courage and faith.

Their names are publicly known and the reason is publicly known and the Church has stated that they by taking the position they have, have placed themselves in a state of excommunication. So you have what you wanted.

Jon, and that my friend is all the icons and statues are. Reminders of those that lived the faith that we admire.
