Misconception.

While the Western nations are facing demographic winter (or in the case of NA, demographic fall), the numbers are up in most of the rest of the world.

We may lose the West, however, if the light goes out on human sight it will not be because of a lack of birthrates.

Would it be a blessing for western culture to fade away and be supplanted by another that is fruitful? Not my wish, just food for thought.
We are way too materialistic to be fruitful here in North America. Mea Culpa, we as parents never encouraged our kids to commit to marriage, but did encourage them to be successful in a career. Our western culture is just poison to fertility.

In any case, “the West” will cease to exist long before the kingdom of God, which is eternal.
God’s promises are good. The Church will go on into eternity, regardless of what racial makeup we are, or what language we speak.

God is not limited by us. He will find a way, as he wills.

It could be in the sense that being open to life is a matter of social justice. That of course does not mean that everyone has to have 2.1 children. There is quite a bit a diversity in the optimal number of children.

Exactly. Being open to life (nebulous though that can be at times…) is a matter of social justice. In the same way being good steward’s of God’s creation is a matter of social justice. It does not mean one must support Cap & Trade or oppose nuclear.

Unfortunately, my understanding is that no population has ever recovered once under replacement rate.

Many countries are trying very hard to increase their birth rates, and yet with all the incentives, people still aren’t having babies.

I don’t think you can compare how humans respond with how mammal populations react to their environment. Also, we are still expanding rapidly as a species (?)

Depends on who the other culture is. There is more to a culture than babies.

Islamic societies are great at fertility, but I would in no way admire to see NA or the European countries Islamified.

Here in NA, we were given a “grace period” in the young Mexicans and Central Americans who came up and built families, bringing the Catholic faith with them. But we responded by wanting to wall them off. And now even without a wall, this factor will be going away. The new young Mexican generation will stay in Mexico.

It’s reportedly now easier to make “middle class” in MX than it is here, and the current wave of anti-immigrant hysteria isn’t making this country more attractive.
