Do most Churches usually pray for members in need?

Such as regarding healing.
If I were to convert and go to a Catholic Church do they pray for specific people in need similarly to how there is a lot of such praying that takes place on this forum?
Is that to be expected from most Catholic Churches?

I plan to convert and go to Church often and am hoping that I will get further such support when I do in the form of prayer from others. The reason is it works so well and has worked so well on this forum.

The answer depends on the parish. In my parish, we publish a list of individuals requesting prayers in the bulletin. In other parishes, they ask for prayer requests during the intercessions during Mass. Some parishes have a prayer tree or circle and some have people who offer to bring special intentions to prayer during their hours in the Adoration chapel.

But yes, there is a lot of praying going on in Catholic parishes; the methods might be a little different from place-to-place.

I never thought I’d give this reference, but you probably would do well in a charismatic parish that has lots of “healing” masses.

I for one come from a United Methodist background that was (in the local communties I experienced anyway) very strong on prayer trees and other ways of praying for sick members and other needs, but for whom charismatic healing services would have been entirely foreign and probably controversial, so I don’t think your advice necessarily follows from what the OP said. It depends on his/her background, and the authenticity of the “healing masses” of course.

I could be wrong, but how likely do you think it is that he will find that in your average EF or OF?

Praying for the members of the church? I’ve never yet encountered a parish where that didn’t happen.
 
I would hope so. Saying prayers at home (private devotion) is different than praying/saying the Liturgy.
 
A parish is definitely necessary.
But I have a feeling that this forum may do a better job than many parishes at praying for those in need of healing and other things.

The results are great of being here and being prayed for.

But I’m rather new to Catholicism(haven’t converted yet) and don’t know what it would be like to go to a Parish and if they would pray for me.

I might look into this. But first I want to see what the parish is like closest to where I live for convenience sake.

I always have this forum so I can be prayed for that way if it doesn’t work out with a conveniently located Parish.

My Pastor prays during the intentions at every Mass and mentions every name on the bulletin. He also prays every day as he has the list on his phone.

There are specific priests who are involved in healing Masses and also do private sessions, however, the Charismatic groups seem to have become less through the years.

I have called other parishes and they have put my prayer intentions on their lists also.

Catholics do pray alot for others.

We also accept that in God’s plan we all must carry our cross and offer up our sufferings to Him. This is not always an easy thing to do.

there is only one Catholic Church
if you mean to individual parishes pray for needs of parishioners and other intentions, yes they do, daily during every Mass. There are also usually someplace people can list their personal prayer intentions, so that the entire parish can pray for them, look for a booklet or journal of some kind in back of the church or chapel. Many parishes have this in the Adoration Chapel. In addition, if the parish has small groups that meet regularly to pray the rosary or other devotions, they usually pray intentionally for those who ask for prayer. Yes it is by all means a regular feature of Catholic life to pray for the intentions of others.

In every parish I have ever been to, you can have a mass said for anyone you want. I don’t restrict this to Catholics I know, but to those who need healing. Usually the mass intentions are listed in the bulletin and noted if the person is alive or deceased. The deceased are marked with a small cross.
 
In our parish we have a list in the bulletin of people needing prayers,a book in the back of the church to write your requests in, which are prayed for during the petitions, and a “prayer wall” in the vestibule which is part of a BB and on which you post sticky notes with your requests. These too are mentioned, as a group, during Mass. The person doing the petitions will say something like “For all the needs in our book of petitions and on our prayer wall, we pray to the Lord.” Of course, many people will take time after Mass to look through the book or read the prayer wall and pray individually for the requests.

There is also a prayer chain run by some ladies that you can call, and a list of those serving in the armed forces listed in the bulletin. If you can’t find someone to pray for in our parish, you are asleep.

Thanks a lot.

I don’t know when I’ll get to a parish. I suppose it’s possible I won’t go at all. But I’m hoping I go someday. I haven’t yet converted to Catholicism and am not sure I will. I need more time perhaps.
