Do Muslims visit Our Lady of Walsingham's shrine?

Hello.

Me and my Muslim boyfriend both (well I think he does) believe in miracles that happen on pilgramiges, for example the healings at the house which is believed to be Mary’s.

I know that some Muslims visit Lourdes and places such as St. George’s shrine and was wondering about Walsingham.

What would we do if we do go there? There isn’t much information online.

I wouldnt recommend a woman marry a muslim man.

Shrines in Islam are prohibited, any Muslim who build a shrine OR put someone between him and Allah is doing a sin according to Sunni Islam, and visiting it is also not recommended, here is prohibition from Quran and hadith:

(Quran 7:194):
“Verily those whom ye call upon besides Allah are servants like unto you: Call upon them, and let them listen to your prayer, if ye are (indeed) truthful!”

إِنَّ الَّذِينَ تَدْعُونَ مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ عِبَادٌ أَمْثَالُكُمْ فَادْعُوهُمْ فَلْيَسْتَجِيبُوا لَكُمْ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ صَادِقِينَ

(Quran 39:43):
"What! Do they take for intercessors others besides Allah? Say: “Even if they have no power whatever and no intelligence?”

أَمِ اتَّخَذُوا مِنْ دُونِ اللَّهِ شُفَعَاءَ قُلْ أَوَلَوْ كَانُوا لا يَمْلِكُونَ شَيْئاً وَلا يَعْقِلُونَ

Say: Cry unto those (saints and angels) whom ye assume (to be gods) beside Him, yet they have no power to rid you of misfortune nor to change. She ('A’isha) reported: Had it not been so, his (Prophet’s) grave would have been in an open place, but it could not be due to the fear that it may not be taken as a mosque.

I agree with Sam. I don’t recall that any Muslim is permitted to go to Shrine. However, they do honor Mary, the mother of Jesus. In Indonesia, the hard-liner Muslims have destroyed or burned many churches. But, not a single Marian shrine in Indonesia ever touched.

If you don’t mind my asking, why are you and your wife attending Mass when she is Muslim and you are agnostic?

Muslims are burning churches and murdering Christians in many Islamic countries. It makes me wonder that if European countries and even America become ruled by an Islamic state someday, that the same fate would happen in Western countries. I realize that most Muslims are peaceful, but the radical elements are increasing and there is “Shariah creep” even in a secular Muslim country, such as Turkey.

I don’t know about Walsingham, but perhaps your boyfriend would care to go to the shrine of Our Lady of Fatima. I believe that Fatima was a daughter of Muhammad (correct me if I’m wrong), and that he named the town in Portugal Fatima after his daughter.

I was in the RCIA and dropped away for the time being for complicated reasons, just before I was baptised, one being I am a jew and didnt feel welcome.

I can’t understand how you wouldn’t be welcomed. You would be with open arms in most churches I know of. Sometimes we have to join organizations to get to know people or we’ll be left out (or just feel left out). That’s true no matter what race, nationality or whatever differences a new person brings. I know it’s true for myself. When I left my former parish, I felt “lonesome”, at first, at the much larger new church which seemed so bureaucratic. It took time, but I joined a couple of groups and that helped. When my children were in grade school, it was much easier to feel a part of the community. I think you have much to contribute, especially at a Bible class I would think. Don’t give up so easily, PLEASE!

I don’t know about Walsingham, but I have met Muslim families at Aylesford in Kent, a Carmelite priory. One family, a husband, wife and their little girl, said they go there regularly because of the connection they feel with Our Lady (this was in May).
