Do new converts feel left behind after they become fully Catholic?

I btw despite my problems found I could sing in the choir, do the gardening and (just about using my childhood hobby) play the organ at the back of church, I also found a couple of people who need help and friendship so we go for coffee afterwards.

Since RCIA for me was two years, I had plenty of time to get to know people both in the RCIA parish and in my local parish. There have been a few times when I have felt like the distant relative living far away who doesn’t know the everyday life of the family. In most cases there was something traditional to those immigrant Catholics´ culture that we were talking about.

I know that I have to tell a few persons if I am going to be away for a couple of weeks as they would worry way to much if I didn’t. You know, the “granny/grandad type persons” who worry if you have a cold.

All interested converts (during the past 7 or so years) from my RCIA parish still meet a few times per year for a lecture and a “meet and great and get to know the new ones”. We were encouraged to get involved in one of the groups the parish has.

I don’t feel left behind. Rather, I feel like I’m in cultural shock. It’s a huge life change to go from Protestant to Catholic. I’m still learning to navigate my new and highly individualistic faith.

I try really hard not to take things personally or feel slighted/rejected by those in my parish. I know enough to know that this isn’t their intention.
