I want a clear answer please because I can’t get one anywhere. So is it yes or no - and why.

Thanks 🙂

yes or no? when I read the link you gave I read a big NO in it - but I want to know what catholics think. I’m asking for a reason - when I read it I see NO, catholics will tell me I don’t understand, so please make it easy for me and just tell me

From the Catechism
“Outside the Church there is no salvation”
846 How are we to understand this affirmation, often repeated by the Church Fathers?335 Re-formulated positively, it means that all salvation comes from Christ the Head through the Church which is his Body:
Code:
Basing itself on Scripture and Tradition, the Council teaches that the Church, a pilgrim now on earth, is necessary for salvation: the one Christ is the mediator and the way of salvation; he is present to us in his body which is the Church. He himself explicitly asserted the necessity of faith and Baptism, and thereby affirmed at the same time the necessity of the Church which men enter through Baptism as through a door. Hence they could not be saved who, knowing that the Catholic Church was founded as necessary by God through Christ, would refuse either to enter it or to remain in it.336
847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:
Code:
Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.337
848 "Although in ways known to himself God can lead those who, through no fault of their own, are ignorant of the Gospel, to that faith without which it is impossible to please him, the Church still has the obligation and also the sacred right to evangelize all men."338
When it says “Outside the Church there is no Salvation” it means that non-Catholics can have salvation, but only through the church. This does not mean they have to be in the church see 847 above.

So to answer your question is, it depends. They can attain salvation but we cannot say for sure if they have or not. That is up to God.

I hope this helps

Do you want Catholics’ opinions, or Catholic teaching, because the two are not mutually exclusive. Catholics here can give you an opinion, but that does not necessarily mean that they’re right. To be sure, read the article again to know what the Church teaches.

As you may or may not know, we humans cannot judge whether a person in or outside the Church will end up in Heaven. That is up to God to decide…not us.

Why would Catholics have an opinion outside the churches teachings? The only reason this might be true is if they were ignorant of church teachings.

You are right though, we cannot say for sure if a person has gained salvation or not. It is up to God who is merciful.

so ultimately - the matter is between God and the individual and the church cannot damn people to hell?

One might even go so far as to say that God doesn’t damn anyone to hell. They do it themselves by not following his rules. It’s a conscious choice they make to reject the gift of Heaven that’s freely offered.

We are saved by our personal relationship with Jesus Christ. In John
3:1-21, Jesus tells Nicodemus that his “religion” can not and will not save him from God’s condemnation.

I think in many instances, non-Catholics are ignorant of the Church’s true teachings, as they can sometimes be difficult to decipher. If you combine this lack of understanding with the normal, sinful people who comprise the Church, you can easily get “Catholics” who decide to leave the Church.
just my opinion of course 😉

It is true that it is ultimately between God and the individual. But this does not mean an individual can make up any rules he/she wants. God speaks through the Church, the Bible clearly teaches. God gives HIS rules through the Church. It is up to us to follow the rules or not because we all have free will.

It might interest you to know that even though the Church can infallibily declare who is a saint, it is not within her prerogative to declare who is NOT. That is why the public worship of the Church includes a GENERAL prayer for those who have physically died.

Blessings,
Marduk

The Catholic Church has never damned anyone to hell. You may notice that the Church has declared certain people to be in heaven (we call them “saints”), but has never declared anyone to be in hell, and never will.

God love you,
Paul

The reason you can’t get a clear answer is because there is no clear answer. Despite what many Evangelicals would have us believe, salvation does not come by checking off items on a checklist of rules.

Salvation comes from Jesus alone, and it is He and He alone who decides who enters His kingdom. When a person dies, she stands before Jesus and is judged. This judgment is a very personal and mystical thing, far beyond our ability to understand. No one knows your heart like Jesus does. As the bible says, He looks not on your outward person, but on the heart within. No mere mortal can do that, nor would we dare to try.

I think that many of us will be very surprised when we find out who did and did not make it to heaven.

God love you,
Paul

This is the why;
If the only thing you are seeking is to NOT to go to hell than, then that is all you will find. If you are seeking a way to live the Church can teach you how to live. Blessings!

Only one person can damn someone to hell. If you want to know who take a look in the mirror.

**I want a clear answer please because I can’t get one anywhere. So is it yes or no - and why. **

There IS no clear answer. There IS no yes or no.

Only God decides who goes to hell–or rather, He alone ratifies and confirms the choice we have already made.

The only people in danger of going to hell are those who believe in it. In short, its your hell -you burn in it. 😃

I would argue that most of the people who wind up in hell didn’t believe in it.
Hell isn’t a place or state that you get sent to - it’s where YOU choose to go because of your disbelief.

Sadly, Catholics who have abandoned the Church for some form of religion or another, are eternally condemned in my view. Unless they were so decieved beyond the point that they bear no guile, or have somehow misplaced their trust… But this is stretching it. After a certain point of searching for the Truth and finding it, here in the Christ-ordained Catholic Church, with his blessed Body and Blood for our Sacrament, I think it is impossible to leave, unless you utterly reject God’s Church and know that it is His Church. But nominal Catholics that have been decieved into becoming Protestant, or whatever, actually bear less guile because of their lack of knowledge. All the ex-Catholic Protestants I know DID NOT leave the Catholic Church for doctrinal or historical reasons. They left because they like so-and-so’s preaching, so-and-so’s “worship” band, and, heck, in some Protestant mega-“churches” you can all eat a buffet lunch while listening. Plus, as a Protestant, you can just commit a sin and say, God I’m sorry, and then Bam! You’re forgiven. Not so in Catholicism. You must repent, and have contrition for the act, and do whatever it takes to repare the damage made by the act. No wonder nominal Catholic want to be Protestant so much. It’s so much easier to be sinful…

(Note: this is not a reflection of all Catholics and Protestants.)

believe it or not, its your hell too.

And how rude of you to tell someone to burn in hell.
