Sadly, Catholics who have abandoned the Church for some form of religion or another, are eternally condemned in my view. Unless they were so decieved beyond the point that they bear no guile, or have somehow misplaced their trust… But this is stretching it.
Why are they eternally condemned? could you elaborate this for me?

If they know the Truth, that is, that the Catholic Church is the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by Christ on the Apostles, and continued in the bishops, priests, and deacons, and willfully choose to reject that which they know is true, then, we can safely say they are condemned, because they chose a lie or a half-truth over the Full Truth which they had already come to know. That withstanding, each individual case is different, and the one leaving, if they are sincerely following what they believe, even though their sincerity is misplaced, may somehow avoid condemnation. It is not for me to judge. But generally, I would say, sadly, they are condemned.

That is warped theology, No one can ever say if someone else is condemned. We are saved by our personal relationship with Christ, NOT by religion.

John
3:1-21. Here Jesus tells Nicodemus, who is a very religious man, that his religion can’t and will no’t save him from God’s condemnation. Therefore, it’s not a person’s “religion” or membership in a particular Christian denomination that saves a person.

Matthew 5:20
20 For I say to you, that unless your righteousness exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.
(Since Nicodemus was a Pharisee. Jesus rules out religion as a means of salvation.)

whoa… ken. i’d like to invite you
to my thread “no two people have the same exact belief”

going to hell has nothing to do with being catholic or not…
and the catholic church, or ANY church can damn anyone to hell.
the only way to go to hell is to reject the gospel of Jesus Christ.
We are sinners by nature, and wouldve been doomed to hell had Christ not died on the cross to pay our sin debt…He gave his blood , died and rose again on the third day that we might accept what he did for us thru faith…accept Jesus Christ as your personal saviour…trusting in him fully for your salvation…not the church…ANY church or anything you do yourself. Eph.2;8-9 tells us that we are not saved based on anything we do. Christ did it all on the cross…and he is no longer on that cross…

Gal,
This is not the first time you’ve asked about hell. What is it that is on your mind? Why the pre-occupation with it? We’ve explained that it is not as simple as “be Catholic or go to hell.” It is about what you do. You have stated before that you are not Christain and that you have your own understanding of God. Are you worried that your understanding is missing something? How can we help you?

**I would argue that most **of the people who wind up in hell didn’t believe in it.
Hell isn’t a place or state that you get sent to - it’s where YOU choose to go because of your disbelief.
Gee, you must have been in hell to be able to make that assertion! 😃

True statement.

The Catholic Church or any other Church can lead you to seek God. In the end, God who is the judge will determine whether a person is worthy of heaven or hell based on the deeds he has done while he was still on earth.

We are doomed to hell if we are unrepentent sinners. Jesus indeed save us through his death on the cross. As the old saying goes, “dying you destroyed our death, rising you restored our life.”

Well, actually I believe Peter and Jesus made it very clear, that we have to love God with all our heart, mind and body. Second, is we love our neighbor as we love ourselves. We should also obey all his commandment, and believe everything he has taught us. He also said, that we must repent and be baptized. He said nothing about us being saved by faith alone or accepting him as our personal savior to be saved.
…not the church…ANY church or anything you do yourself. Eph.2;8-9 tells us that we are not saved based on anything we do. Christ did it all on the cross…and he is no longer on that cross…
I recall Paul said, “We preached Christ crucified.” I also believe that without the cross we would still be dead in sin and the resurrection would be fruitless." True, Jesus is no longer at the cross. Jesus is at the right hand of the Father, as the King of Kings, and Lord of Lords.

For the most part, I believe the Church being the Body of Christ as St. Paul said has the means of salvations. In the Church, I am born again through baptism, I am also annointed through confirmation, and received the Body and Blood of the Lord in the Holy Communion, my sins are forgiven in the Sacrament of Reconciliation. If I choose to marry, I have my marriage bless in the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony, if I am ordained priest, I am admitted into the Holy Orders, and if I am sick, I am annointed with oil. These are 7 Sacraments are God’s grace. They are a sign of a visible reality of an invisible reality.

Jesus established One Church, and he created this Church to save us. He let his grace save us and his grace flows through his Church.

prove that hell exists. you cant even prove the bible. its all just make believe.
When you die, you will believe and it will be too late for you. I just pray you have the heart to change your ways. It is not us who condemned you but yourself.
How hypocritical. How dare you christians accuse us non-believers of burning in hell. Back to you, buddy. Its your hell, you burn in it. 😃
Don’t justify evil by doing evil. Second, a person who fully rejects God have allowed himself to be cast into hell by not allowing to obey all precepts of God. I myself cannot judge whether or not you will go there. I pray to God that you won’t. But it is apparent by your lack of respect for our Christian belief, you have neither the time to understand this belief.

My friend. It is not God who sent people to hell. It is people who willing reject God who refuse to repent will go there. I cannot judge a man’s heart only God does that.

Just a reminder. We do not have the tools at our disposal to determine who is and who is not bound for hell. Only God can decide who is hellbound.

God bless-

Rachel
