Do non-Catholics support illegal immigration like the Catholic Church does?

There are millions of illegal immigrants in this country. Thats a fact. My question is "Does America have the manpower, resources and the logistical capability to deport lord only knows how many millions of people this might be. Of course we dont. So I think the answer is to figure out a way to make it easier to make them legal. Im not saying amnesty, but a realistic solution. I think it would be irrational to start rounding up men and women seperating families and such. We need to see the human side to this problem. And think of it, what if all these millions all of a sudden disappeared. I think it would definitely have consequences on the economy and the workforce. I dont think the Catholic Church supports illegal immigration, but supports a more viable and realistic solution. Do I have the answer, no, in fact I dont think anyone has the total answer. In my experience, a group of mexicans was doing some work on my house, and they were very hard working and very polite. Btw, they were here legally…
👍 Awesome post! I always say the same thing… remember the movie a day w/o a Mexican? Our economy would be a total disaster if all these million of people were gone. Everything would be chaos. We have to admit the US needs them to support our economy. And I’m with you, I don’t think the US has the resources to get these people out of here. BTW, I’m Mexican, I’m a US citizen and I’m really hard working, nice and polite. It’s part of our culture.

We are being bombarded in our diocese with reasons we should resist laws against illegal immigration. Do non-Catholic churches take this position? Are Protestants in favor of illegal immigration like the Catholic Church is?
Bart,

(Matt 2: 13-15) After they had left, the angel of the Lord suddenly appreared in a dream to Joseph with the command: " Get up take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt**. Stay there until I tell you otherwise. Herod is ssearching for the child to destroy him." Joseph got up and took the child and his mother and left that night for Egypt. He stayed there until the death of Herod, to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: Out of Egypt I called my Son.**

Bart, the Holy Family Jesus Mary and Joseph were illegals, when they fled into Egypt, this should tell you that Jesus is not against the illegals and so the Catholic Church is not against the illegals as well.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but wasn’t Egypt a part of the Roman Empire? If so, they weren’t really going from one country to another. It would be like going from Florida to Georgia.

Why would you want*** illegal*** immigration?🤷

I mean, gosh, are borders are not closed. They CAN immigrate legally… Thats speaking for any ethnic group.

That’s simply not true. The system that we have means that the average Mexican (to pick one relevant nationality) has almost no chance of getting into the country legally. Borders are not completely closed. But there is a quota for legal immigration which is completely out of sync with the relative numbers of people seeking to immigrate. The system is broken and needs to be fixed. But the hardline legal positivists refuse to consider this if it involves any mercy for the people who have already broken the rules of the current system!

The title of this thread is untrue and offensive.
That you’re being asked to work for just immigration laws is NOT “supporting illegal entry.”

Hi

All of have forgotten the word illegal in the word illegal aliens.

It is not the USA that for bad conditions in there own country they should reform government not change ours.

When law and order break down, one will have civil unrest.

All that support breaking the laws of the United States but I don’t I want right side of the law. If you don’t like a law then do it legal to have it change. Not to tell people to just break it.

I love this country and want it freedoms protect, you may not but.

I supporting legal not illegal immigration in this country there is a big differents.

The Bishops of the Catholic have been very much like leftist when it come being right on issue’s.

Someone has to stand for law and order evern when they don’t

I am all for law and order, but I am also for changing the current immigration laws, as they have proven unfeasible and unworkable. Making passage across the border easy and legal is the simplest solution.

Frank,

Thank you for your post.

My wife is from Mexico. We were married in 2001, and she became a citizen in 2006.

There is nothing just and fair about the immigration laws in the US.

My wife and I both followed the laws exactly as they were written.
  • This resulted in her not being able to join me after us being married.
  • This resulted in us being in Juarez, Mexico, on September 11, 2001 and being locked out of my own country for a time.
  • This resulted in us not being able to live together for the first few months after our marriage.
  • This resulted in us both being treated very poorly in the US Consolate in Mexico and being denied my rights as a US citizen there.
I am not promoting breaking the law; however it is my opinion that any law that damages families needs to be repealed. I fully understand why some individuals would break the law. If my life and or unity of my family depended on it, I would.

At the end of the day, the law is written by humans and perfectly open to error.

Sincerely,

Was it good for them to break the law?? When you say it Christian can break the law; how is to make that choice.
Are you seriously suggesting that the only reason rape is wrong is because it is against the law?

Are you denying natural law altogether?

Positive law addresses matters too specific for natural law. For instance, natural law dictates that we should not recklessly endanger the safety of others. Positive law (the kind made by governments) gives us speed limits. Even if we personally think that driving at 80 mph is safe, we ought to obey the speed limit that says otherwise.

But when positive law violates natural law it is not truly law at all.

You seem to think that we have no way of determining right and wrong unless we are told by the government what is right and what is wrong. It’s hard to believe that you could really think this, but I don’t know how otherwise to interpret what you are saying.

In Christ,

Edwin

Hi

If one feels that a law needs to be repealed then repealed it.

I don’t understand how you can look at a crucifix (or an icon of Christ Crucified) and think that law and order are absolute goods. As Christians, we worship a crucified criminal. Attempts to turn Christianity into a law-and-order religion will inevitably fail, because they run up against the most basic truth on which our faith is founded–that when God becomes incarnate in this world, the forces of law and order kill Him (and are in turn defeated and confounded by Him).

Rape is wong and was written into the laws of this country.

Law is the Law

Yes, but wouldn’t it be wrong even if there were no law on the subject? Wouldn’t it be wrong even if the law explicitly said that it was OK in certain circumstances?
Law is the Law
Wrong. This is heresy and idolatry. We do not worship positive law made by government. We worship the Triune God and the law that is identical with His eternal intellect.

Hi

Remember this what are saying says a lot about ones religion.

That is why I’m Orthodox Christian. Orthodoxy is a very pro American Church we pray for this country it leader and the arm forces of United States. I have yet to see the Catholic do it in it’s Novus Orod Mass.

We pray for the men and women of our armed services EVERY Sunday at Mass. I have heard this at just about every other Catholic Church I’ve been to as well, especially since the war started.

Your post is a clear reminder that the cafeteria has doors on the right as well as the left.

It is not heresy and idolatry to be a law and order guy
It is not wrong to say that law and order are goods. It is wrong to make them the ultimate goods (if by “law” you mean positive, governmental law, as you appear to do).

Your a priori beliefs does not define reality. We pray for those serving in the US armed forces at every Sunday Mass I have been to. Is that your criteria for what is God’s Will?
