Do non-Catholics support illegal immigration like the Catholic Church does?

Bart,

(Matt 2: 13-15) After they had left, the angel of the Lord suddenly appreared in a dream to Joseph with the command: " Get up take the child and his mother, and flee to Egypt****. Stay there until I tell you otherwise. Herod is ssearching for the child to destroy him." Joseph got up and took the child and his mother and left that night for Egypt. He stayed there until the death of Herod, to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: Out of Egypt I called my Son.

Bart, the Holy Family Jesus Mary and Joseph were illegals, when they fled into Egypt, this should tell you that Jesus is not against the illegals and so the Catholic Church is not against the illegals as well.

This is not true. The Holy Family were not lawbreakers. Mary was sinless, therefore your conclusion is not only without merit, it is very disrespectful to the Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph. Personally, I find this disgusting.

They were migrants but not illegal. The previous statement is based on a supposition that all migration is illegal. Legal migration should be made possible for the very reason that there are instances where migration is the solution for individuals and families. What is the problem with accepting migrants who wish to live, work, and support their families just like the rest of us?

I did not even suggest that migrants or immigrants should not be welcomed.

I was objecting to the vicious and heretical notion that the Holy Family were illegal immigrants in Egypt. Nothing else. Read my other posts on this thread.

Yes, and I was supporting what you said.

Why is it heretical to say that they broke a “law” made by a human government? If that law were against natural law, it would not be a law at all (says Aquinas). Hence it would not be a sin to break it. The heresy would be to claim that they broke a just law. But that is just what was not being claimed. (I don’t know if it can be said that they broke a law at all–I suppose Herod didn’t exactly pass a law saying “stay home and let your children be killed”–but they were certainly fleeing the actions of a government.)

Look, I do not like the current immigration system.

Illegal immigration is bad because those who enter illegally end up in a sub-culture where they feel they cannot turn to the police or other authorities for help. They are often and easily exploited by employers and that is no way to raise a family.

Immigration laws that result in breaking up a family are not just.

Immigration laws that reward people for engaging in any illegal activity, including illegally crossing the border or residing here, are also not just.

In addition, a few of those who come through the porous USA border are here with criminal intent, or at least a willingness to commit crime. (I am glad American borders are porous.) There is a reason why a significant fraction of the prison population, out of proportion to the number of illegals here, were here illegally at the time they committed their crime. And the reason is not because of discrimination.

We need reform. But we also need to protect the people, all people, from those who would do harm.

If there was an immigration law broken in that instance that is comparable to the US, it would be on the side of Egypt. Fleeing Herod to Egypt would be comparable to those who seek asylum in the US from other countries.

Hi

Remember this what are saying says a lot about ones religion.

That is why I’m Orthodox Christian. Orthodoxy is a very pro American Church we pray for this country it leader and the arm forces of United States. I have yet to see the Catholic do it in it’s Novus Orod Mass.

I never seen the Catholic Church every pray this or support the arm forces of United States
Let me get this straight…you are an “orthodox christian " whatever that is and I think it is reasonable to assume that when you are in church services it is not a Catholic Mass…but you haven’t " seen the Catholic Church every (sic) pray this or support arm(sic) forces.” There are a lot of things you haven’t seen…the Catholic Church is not responsible for your ignorance or lack of critical thinking skills. If you were once an attender at Catholic Mass please don’t claim to be another disgruntled ex Catholic. You were never one of us…period.
I don’t want to discourage your posting as it reveals you as a glittering jewel of anti Church ignorance.

He means “Orthodox” as in Eastern Orthodox.

Edwin
If you have read his posts…uh I’m not sure what he means. I do know what the Eastern Orthodox Church is but orthodox can have another meaning…to some.🤷

Yes, I’ve read his posts and that is clearly what he means. He left the Catholic Church and became Orthodox in part because Orthodoxy is more favorable to nationalism–which it is.

Rape is wong and was written into the laws of this country.

Law is the Law
It is also not against the law to speak favorly of immigration, legal and illegal. It is not against the law to lend aid to hispanics without carding them. The Catholic Church has broken no laws. So what’s the beef? The Church is not INS and has no obligation, moral or legal, to enforce immigration laws.

Hi

I use to RC at one time and I never herd any prayers for the arm forces of the United States. The only thing I remember was the Conference Of Catholic was coming out with Doc. against war and condemning Pres… Ronald Regan Peace through stronger America.

Maybe I should look up Pres. Ronald Regan great move to make the fall of the Berlin War by make the fall of the USSR. It was not the Pope that made the fall of the Berlin War.

Pres. Ronald Regan won the cold war.

Hi

If your Church prayers for the arm forces your going to have to prove it to me because I don’t believe you.

All of you are law breaker

See what happen to you if you break any law in this country.

You will be the first one calling for a lawyer to help you get out of it.

We pray for the men and women of our armed services EVERY Sunday at Mass.
We do too, at least at almost all Masses. My guess is Frank just doesn’t get around much to Catholic services, at least not in any decent sampling. Mark up one more for some one who hates what they think the Catholic Church is.

By the way, what the heck does any of this have to do with immigration, Frank.
