“Do not be afraid” this is something we see frequently repeated throughout the Bible. God is obviously speaking to everyone when he says this. After all, fear can be from Satan or just be a nuisance.

That brings me to this: if we are told explicitly to “not be afraid”, shouldn’t we steer clear of horror films, paranormal videos/tv shows, and other things of the like?

Comments?

I am not sure, but I think that that is mainly saying do not be afraid of evil or any pain or suffering you will experience during this life. 😀

Me ?
No horror movies whatsoever.
Paranormal things - it’s a grey area ( no pun attended )
Some old guy at church said he saw the movie
“ Exorcism of Emily Rose “ - and recommended it -
No thanks !
But I have read books on exorcisms - a little study -
And do believe - in knowing thy enemy ( devil )
But I do keep my distance -
Draw nigh to GOD - and He’ll draw near to you -
Even that ! sometimes - makes me afraid.

I don’t think the Lord was referencing the kind of fright that can be manufactured for entertainment purposes. That kind of fear can be turned off or ignored. I believe his words were to comfort those who cannot escape the fear they experience, the kind of fear that haunts you while you are alone, and is generated from within. Doubt, anxiety, depression, and loneliness can feel very singular and crushing to those battling them, and the fear that one is never going to overcome them can lead to dispair. God is assuring us to never give in to fear because, even in our darkest moments, even when we are afraid, he is there with us.
