I am scared of the truth. I love going to church, confession, reading the bible. Living out of my faith, is the most difficult part. I am so scared of what it is to come. The closer you become to God, the more you realize how sinful you are. Sometimes other’s errors or errors around you become more visible. What good is it then to know Christ? It’s really bad, I would love to write an inspiring story of a young woman with courage to follow Christ, but I can not bring myself to do. I do not like knowing the truth about myself, others, or even God. I just see how inadequate I am. Some of deep-rooted sins and tendencies embarrass me. It embarrasses me people can see them apparently. I am too scared to pray.

Truth is that which man denied and turned away from at the Fall, falling into the bondage of sin and death. Truth sets us free now. What’s to fear? We have nothing worthwhile to lose but everything to gain by embracing truth. In any case, while the truth may make us enemies of this world, God doesn’t give us a spirit of fear-and you seem to know too much to go backwards anyway. Pray in spite of your fear-and God will strengthen you in the battle.

The truth is that worrying about our sins is the very last on our Things to Do List by Jesus.

Loving each other is the focus.

Don’t worry about tomorrow. God’s already there.

Don’t worry about after you die. Love each other AS you love yourself.

Would you forgive another person who did the sins you have done? If you would forgive them but not yourself then you cannot fully receive the peace and joy available by letting Jesus deal with the “wages of sin is death” thing because frankly worrying about sinning all the time was what we had before Jesus came – and guess what nobody wins that way, because the “law of sin and death” which is the one by which you stand to convict yourself too readily it sounds like, cannot bring life. It’s kind of confusing but Rom 7 and 8 goes through a lot of this.

Fear and worry are what Jesus can help us with. Honestly, if you think about it, even the sins you did were for some reason at the time, but maybe they were selfish maybe they weren’t. Technically, if you aren’t a certain amount selfish you will die. If you give away all your food and never take a bite you will die. Eating is selfish because it serves the self. But we do it with gratitude for the maker who gives it to us. So I submit that “selfish” v “selfless” is not necessarily an indicator of sinfulness or not.

The reason I get into it about selfish or not, is that when I want to do something nice I can think of reasons to be pleased with myself for doing it, or for hating myself – more likely a mixture. Like if I see a homeless guy and want to give him a dollar. Why? So others can see me give it? So I can feel good about myself – a little ego stroke? So the guy smiles at me and makes me feel connected? Is that for him that he smiles or for me that I see him smile? What if others see me do it and pay me back? Will I lose my heavenly reward? What if he spends the dollar on booze?

My mind can be very active to the point I was psychotic for a while, but I finally figured something out. Just decide what is good to do and do it. Worry about the philosophy class in a separate setting. Let Jesus worry about the sinfulness. Let your own open eyes and humility worry about the motives. Just worry about what you need and the do it. If the guy says he’s hungry and I want to give him a dollar, I risk building my ego. I risk being seen by others. I don’t do it for them, nor in such a way to draw attention. But if I get it, and if I feel good about myself, I’ll risk that for the knowledge that I gave to one who asks which is what Jesus said to do, and let the chips fall where they may.

And use your confessor to deal with sinfulness like you use a doctor to handle a suspected infection.

“Draw near to God, and God will draw near to you” James 4:8

Good luck on your journey.

Psalms 130: 1 Out of the depths I call to you, LORD; 2 Lord, hear my cry! May your ears be attentive to my cry for mercy. 3 If you, LORD, keep account of sins, Lord, who can stand?4 But with you is forgiveness and so you are revered. 5 I wait for the LORD, my soul waits and I hope for his word.6 My soul looks for the Lord more than sentinels for daybreak

More than sentinels for daybreak,

Peace

Being sensitive about your sins is a very good sign. It’s a confirmation that the Spirit of God is living in you. If you did not have His Spirit, then you wouldn’t notice or care about your sins.

You’re not a terrible person. God knows the hearts of us all, and we’re all pretty much the same. We are all inadequate. But God shows His love for us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. (Romans 5:8)

Thank and praise God that he is working on you to conform you to the image of His Son. ❤️

Truth is Jesus of Nazareth, the son of the Living God, the Christ. Get to know him, seek him and you will find wisdom and peace, a peace the world cannot give.

Fear not! 🙂 You are a beginner on the spiritual journey. There are three stages: the Purgative, the Illuminative, and the Unitive. You are in the Purgative way, like many many other people:
The purgative way
The purgative way is the way, or state, of those who are beginners, that is, those who have obtained justification, but have not their passions and evil inclinations in such a state of subjugation that they can easily overcome temptations, and who, in order to preserve and exercise charity and the other virtues have to keep up a continual warfare within themselves. It is so called because the chief concern of the soul in this state is to resist and to overcome the passions by nourishing, strengthening, and cherishing the virtue of charity. This can and ought to be done not only by keeping the Commandments, but by foreseeing the occasions in which the precepts oblige, so as to be ready by a prompt and well disposed will to resist and avoid any sins opposed to them. This state, although, in one sense, it is imperfect, in another sense may be called a state of perfection, because the soul remains united to God by grace and charity so long as it is free from the stain of mortal sin.

I’d suggest reading some of the Psalms particularly 25 and 51. :blessyou:

We’re all sinners. Jesus offers forgiveness. It’ll be ok.

I am afraid of evangelizing in the wrong way, meddling, etc. Some personality flaws re-emerge. I would love to grow for Jesus, I can only think of how embarrassed I am at my wrongs. I wish I never did them.

I know what it’s like for me to be embarrassed at my wrongs. It may not seem so, but I am hyper-aware of how people take it when I say every little thing or do any little thing.
