Sorry, you are likely right (<cough>Clinton-Lewinsky<cough>) – My apologies and mea culpa.My goodness…we are a serious bunch aren’t we? People watch TV for all sorts of reasons. And while I don’t necessarily believe that “the behinds the scenes stuff run by a bunch of high schoolers” is indeed what our government is like, sometimes it isn’t all that far off. The point I was trying to make , Tee, is that there are probably things going on in our government that we aren’t privy to or that might make us go :bigyikes:
Of course, the best way to watch is to watch along with Dave Barry.

Arghhh!!!
My wife is hooked on a new one: “Heroes”. At the end they had the typical weekly cliff-hanger and flashed to “to be continued.” I jumped up and said “See! That’s why I don’t watch these shows.”
I guess I just lack the patience in my older years to tolerate “to be continued.”
The dvd idea my be useful when they wrap up and cancel a series.

So, I got to thinking, as viewers we are sort of in the “God” position. We get to see everything, sort of like in a providential sense, whereas the characters in the play only see dimly, through their own perspective and concrete context. This enables us an overall better vision of the forces at play, the conflicting struggles in humanity of it all, the good and the bad. Then we can make up our own minds as to what is right or wrong, having seen it all.

Coming from a person who has never seen 24 (I don’t own a tv), that I get all my news from everyone else talking about the show. With that said, I heard that Jack’s own father is working against Jack. I wouldn’t want to be Jack. I could NEVER go against my own father and to do so would be gainst the 4th. Commandment. The whole premise of the show is great but some of the topics and events seems a bit disheartning.

well shoot – if you’re going to boycott a show that is anti-catholic beliefs (tolerance and love towards all Gods people) then you might as well never turn on main-stream-media either; have you watched any news lately? Google’s news wouldn’t even post Mitt Romney’s name; just “Mormon enters race” – tell me that was an accident? LOL…EVERY show has an agenda of some sort…it’s up to those of us with half a brain in our heads to decide how realistic the show is…my personal favorite is the episode of Law and Order that mimics the Terry Schiavo case…what a load…LOL. Or how 'bout the House episode with the raped girl who won’t have an abortion or countless other shows; if you don’t want to watch tv, fine. Throw it out. No one is going to care. And spouting here does nothing if you’re really trying to affect change; you need to write to the producers. and the network. and the media. and your local papers. and your local muslim community leaders. Change doesn’t come by just flipping a channel and telling others to do so. You actually need to act beyond spouting off.

Normally I would agree with you but, in the storyline, the elder Bauer has put five suitcase nukes in the hands of terrorists, one of which went off in Los Angeles. He has murdered his other son and made it look like Jack did it and is now holding his grandson - the son of the man he just murdered - and is threatening the boy’s mother that he will kill him is she doesn’t thwart Jack. And the reason he’s doing all this – he wants to save the family business. He is not a good man. I’m guessing he will die with Jack trying to save his life.

It’s no secret that liberals hate the show 24. And anti-American countries love watching and hoping the terrorists will win However, I’ve never seen it, but these two facts I’ve listed make me want to support it 
That, and the fact that one of my favorite EWTN personalities, Johnette Benkovic, enjoys the show. Too bad I don’t watch any TV anymore (well, not really, but I’d like to see the show nonetheless 
)

I’ve never seen 24 nor do I have any interest in it. However, I can’t see a show that my evangelical protestant mother (who thinks nearly everything is of the devil) loves it, I can’t imagine there actually being anything wrong with it.

My wife heard yesterday that Amnesty International has condemned Jack Bauer. Not the show, Jack Bauer. Isn’t it odd that we aren’t seeing the same guffaws from the liberals that we heard when Dan Quayle condemned Murphy Brown.

I have to agree with the OP with regard to the 24 DVD board game.
I was given the game for Christmas, and while it might have been a swell idea when they thought it up, the execution is abysmal. There really isn’t any need for the location cards or a board - there are colored lines on the board that might correspond to the route your colored playing piece is supposed to take, but no indication of that in the instructions, and no reason to slow the game by following a set route. With the exception of the clue cards, the entire game could be played using the DVD player.
The challenges on the DVD are not particularly interesting (chase after a bad guy’s car, avoid cheesy graphic of laser motion detectors in a room), and it’s very difficult to figure out what you’re supposed to DO in each challenge. E.g, in the car chase, they gave instructions on steering the car using the remote. The bad guy’s car speeds off, makes a few sharp turns into a parking lot, and finally comes back toward you when the parking lot dead ends. However, any (name removed by moderator)ut, whether accelerator, brake, right, or left before the end of the parking lot, and you are told that you’ve lost the target. Your car steers itself just fine through the sharp corners without your help, but only at the end of the parking lot is some (name removed by moderator)ut necessary. I’m not sure what (name removed by moderator)ut is required at that point, for after 10 or so tries we gave up and attempted a different challenge.
And instead of getting some exciting 24 style action during the challenges, it’s mostly low-quality static drawings, and still photos of locations. The soundtrack is mostly Jack or a female agent complaining, “This was a bad call. We don’t have time for this!”
On a scale of 1 to 10, this game gets a 2.

With the birth of our new baby and many weeks during the flu season “laying low” and staying home, we have been watching the 24 DVDs! We’re halfway through the 5th season now.
The one thing I would like to see less of (or none of) is the assisted-suicide promotion. In the season with the virus, Michelle insisted the suicide pills be made available to the victims in the hotel
As though suicide was the only way to manage the pain of the disease What happened to pain medicine? And Gael saying “I was raised to believe that suicide is a sin” and that was made out to be ridiculous. Then in the 4th season, you have Edgar’s mother committing suicide and it being portrayed as a brave, no-nonsense kind of thing to do. She said she wants to die “on her terms”
Oh well, besides that and the implied premarital/extramarital sex in some of the situations, I think it’s a great show and I’ll be sad when we’ve caught up to the current season.

I know there are certainly some moral issues involved with watching 24, however i do not believe that makes it bad to watch. I know that I am not influenced by it and hopefully good Catholics wont be.

Seriously, on The Unit online forums, lots of people who are in the military, including Army Rangers and Special Forces, get involved with the discussion and they say this show is extremely realistic and accurate.
One person said that at their base, everyone gathers on Tuesday nights for The Unit.
Warning–The Unit presents an unapologetically patriotic view of the United States! It’s hard to watch that show and call Bush an imperialist, a cowboy, a warmonger,or any other un-flattering name. I’ve often wondered how The Unit stays on the air, considering how liberal most of Hollywood is. I think it has something to do with the fact that the show is written by Pulitzer-prize winner David Mamet and Emmy-nominated Shawn Ryan–even the liberals don’t mess with this kind of quality talent.
But I predict that eventually, it’ll go too far in praising the American military, and it will get yanked. So watch it now while you can.
P.S. NOT a show for little ones! Teenagers, yes, but not little ones.

Digitonomy, there’s a little bit of “White House” in The Unit.
In last week’s episode, the President was trying to decide whether to give aid (weapons, etc.) to a rebel who was planning a coupe in his country. He asked the Unit to check out the rebel and bring back a recommendation.
And at times, Col. Ryan is caught up in the “game-playing,” trying to convince the President to make certain decisions.
It’s always understood that the Unit answers only to the President, so he’s always “there” even if we don’t see him.
But I agree, usually the show deals with the missions of the men and the waiting back home of the wives and families. There is a lot of criticism of the “wives’ plots,” BTW. People say that they don’t want to watch a soap opera, they just want to see action. I can kind of agree, depending on the wives’ plots. But I think that military wives would probably argue in favor of keeping the “homefront” plots in the show, otherwise it just turns into Combat.

There is nobody like Jack…I enjoy that show and look forward to its return. I’ve seen the Unit and its okay but for me 24 is best:thumbsup:

My opinions on Muslims and their religion were not decided based on what some politician or talking head on tv told me to think. I made up my mind based on careful thought and research.
