Do nun cloisters still take care of orphans?

I have a friend, shes 12, sexually abused, living with an ex-boyfriend who abuses her, and is taking care of 2 kids (not hers). She has tried orphanages but those are terrible for her, and their life is a complete mess. I am trying to help her but all things i normally would suggest she already tried. So i thought, maybe nuns can take care of them, there they would be safe and have decent living conditions.

So my question is, do nuns still take in these cases, and is this a good suggestion for her? If it is, where can i suggest she go? I know there are many orders out there, but i don’t normally deal with this situation.

It would probably be much easier to find a Catholic shelter. Google “Catholic children’s shelter near _____” (your town)

Here is a link to a Catholic children’s home: sjkids.org/

There may be something similar near you. You could also call Catholic Charities and I would think they could point you in the right direction to get her some help.

How does this not have more replies…she is a 12 year old what a horrible situation. I hope you are able to help her. Will pray for her.

It would seem a call to the local child welfare agency would be appropriate here, as this is beyond your ability and competence to address, I suspect.

@emeraldocean: thanks for the tip, i will look into that and see if she has one near her. And thanks for your prayers! I do hope this is all resolved soon.

@choose to love: being at least a little sensible to never take the word of a child online as gospel truth, i dug around and contacted friends and contacts of her to verify the common truth. In this, i learned that they have tried getting child welfare guys involved before, but in the end they just made things worse. It’s hard for a kid to tell the truth of her situation with a gun to her back and the backs of her friends.

I only wish i knew more about working with these situations, i am totally unqualified for this, but it took me months to get her to open up, and to pass this to some complete stranger would require more months of trust gain, and time isn’t something that should be spilt like a drink here.

I am literally going off top of my head ideas at this point. Any and all help is needed.
