Do the Orthodox acknowledge that the current Pope is actually Pope, or do they see the post-schism papal elections as invalid? I only ask because I’d read somewhere that during the Ottoman period the Orthodox appointed their own Patriarch of Rome for a while.

I’d say your source was mistaken, as I don’t believe a parallel patriarchate was ever established, unlike those Rome had established in the Eastern patriarchates. With regards to your question, we certainly acknowledge Benedict XVI as the head of your church.
