Penance. They do penance. You can either do your penance in purgatory or on earth. Offering up your sufferings for your sins and the sins of mankind. Prayer, penance and almsgiving. God is all about justice. If we make up for our sins while on earth, then we are able to go directly to heaven - like the saints. Look at the lives of the saints and how they suffered. But you can’t just be suffering - you have to offer it up. That is the key. Some people suffer and are bitter about it. Accept your suffering and offer them up and you receive indulgences toward your time in purgatory.

Padre Pio even said “Suffering is a gift from God. Blessed is he who knows how to profit by it”.

**Why do people sin? We have been created with the great gift of free will. I have often wondered if I were Eve would I have remained faithful? The answer is no…since it means have I ALWAYS placed God first and have never questioned His wisdom? I have!

As far as people getting to heaven w/o purgatory…we on earth will never know if that is so. I could name several people that I believe deserved heaven right after death ~ I do not know their heart…only God does. Are our loved ones received into heaven??? We can only pray that this is so.
