Do people think Jesus will come back in their lifetime, and why?

I’ve met people personally that feel strongly that the “end” will not come before they see Jesus in their very lifetime.

They even admit to having relatives that died that felt the very same way.

Can anyone explain this to me?

My belief that he will return shortly is the fact that the Prophet Daniel predicted a progression of empires or beasts and they are specifically defined in Daniel chapter 7 but what is interesting is what he predicated of the last beast or empire:

23Thus he said, The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth, and shall tread it down, and break it in pieces.

At the time no Empire ruled the whole earth let alone their whole continent. But the whole earth?

Now in this day in age we see a global empire coming. The bible predicted the global government. It will be set up to be dashed to pieces by the return of Yeshua our King!
Amen

Hi there!

The thing is, many people claimed the same things many years ago.

🤷

The doom and gloom message could be seen by other cultures also, in all periods of time.

This is why I am wondering if this is something unique to the USA, or something else…

I don’t know if the other cultures drew from the Bible. But I do know the accuracy of the bible.
Also, the prophecies concerning the regathering of the scattered nation of Israel which was established in 1948.

I do believe we are near but nobody knows the time or hour of his return just the season.
God Bless!

You don’t know if “other” cultures drew from the bible! I only mentioned the USA, and you do realize it did not come to the USA first!

As for your closing statement, that the bible does back up- no one knows the day or the hour… attributed to Jesus saying this…

Then can you help me out on this?

Why do so many people think they will live to see him come again? Even people who know other family that believed the very same thing and yet, died.

But, for some reason they think they will live to see it.🤷

1948???

Are you a jehovah’s witness or something?

I think that we will meet the Lord at the end of our lifetime when we die. It appeared that Paul and the early Christians thought that there was a good chance that the Lord Jesus would return during their lifeime (1 Thess chap. 4), and that was 2 thousand years ago. Our Lord did not know the day (Mk. 13:32). I think Christians should concentrate on the the present and realize that our death could come at anytime, and then we will meet the Lord.

No not at all. Just a bible believing Christian. I would say that other cultures that are experiencing wars and genocide would think that the end is near more than us spoiled Americans. We haven’t seen anything yet.

Do you think Jesus will return soon? If so, why?

I find that to be a sad case of end-times obsession. People like these are usually of the evangelical Christian sort and more often than not, they’ll pretty much make many stretche, conspiracy theories, and absurd connections to make it seem like ‘we’re in the end-times’. Saddest part is when their predictions don’t come to pass and they just keep shooting themselves in the foot by making more reinterpretations, more corrections, more date-setting etc.

Honestly, why can’t these people just get real lives? Why can’t they focus on what they’re doing now instead of wasting their time making speculations and placing a dangerous amount of faith and hope on them when it could be placed on other things?

Heck, I’d even say that you’re better off speculating the ending of a TV show or a comic book.

Besides, when Armageddon comes, it’ll come like it did in the Michael Bay movie. Nuff said. 😛

So when Mary prophesies 3 days of darkness and a great chastisement coming if there is no reparations made for sins against her immaculate heart they should heed the words of you and get a life?

My mother in law who is a very holy woman and Catholic believes we are in the end times as well…she needs to get a life?

Without watchmen/women to sound the alarm the camp of the Lord will be overtaken.

Yet when everyone is watching, the children are starving, bills aren’t paid, wars are claiming casualties left and right, and questionable bills are being passed in Congress.

Look when a prophecy prompts people to become more like men and women for others, when it compels them to be more charitable and Christ-like, or when it riles them up to fight for a righteous cause, then that is when I’ll stop being a skeptic.

Unfortunately, I’ve had more than enough experience with these end-times prophets to see that this obsession breeds nothing more than propaganda, paranoia, and mistrust. For goodness sakes, look at Jack Chick, Dave Hunt, and John Todd. Look at the SDA. All of them notorious for spreading the fear of the Apocalypse and blatant hatred for the Catholic Church with their nonsense about the Whore of Babylon.

Need I say more?

Say all you want. I notice you didn’t mention any RCC prophecies. Of course that doesn’t spring paranoia. You know what springs paranoia? When my mom tells me that God wants to destroy this world and the only thing keeping HIM from doing so is Mary’s hand cooling the temper of God. If you were raised Mexican Catholic you would know what I’m talking about.

Or better yet. Being told that when a person dies there is a literal wrestling match between Jesus and Satan for your soul (this comes from an ordained Carmelite)

But I guess its ok when a Catholic is doing it. Shall they get a life?

Just be real and say that you don’t like it when non Catholics watch for the end times.

And when you’re raised a middle-class Filipino Catholic, you’d realize they don’t even mention stuff like that. Heck I used to read a popular Catholic magazine here and it’s only when they talk about the beliefs of non-Catholic sects like Iglesia ni Christo is the subject of end-times even mentioned.

You see that’s the reason why I don’t pay much heed when Catholics make end-times prophecy. Nobody puts too much stock in them anyways. They always have other more important things to care about that matter way more than what date the world’s going to end. The good and Christian things they do, they did not do so out of fear of having a meteor crash on their house. They did those things out of love and simple Christian goodness. They don’t show the kind of dangerous and unhealthy obsession unique only to paranoid fundamentalists.

With all due respect. Few know what is like growing up in home in poverty and trying to try anything possible to ease the pain and suffering by way of finding the fullness of God. Spending the dollars you have in your pocket to tithe or light a Candle. Going to functions in the legion of Mary only to be made fun of because we were poor. I remember wanting the return of Jesus to take away the pain and hard work my mom did. People search for hope because they have no hope. The have poverty and spiritual depression. That’s why they turn to the end times. A possible elixir for their pain here on earth.

I hope my Lord returns very soon to take away the pain of poor people.

Lost Wanderer,

Forgive me if I was harsh, I really am simply trying to understand this line of thinking.

I am going to give you a cyberhug, and hope you know I respect your mother and her beliefs,

And I don’t think she is one I would include here, since Mary does not predict dates of end times as far as I know.:o

I don’t like this whole doom and gloom message, only because I fear you may get false conversions this way, and even worse.

Sorry dude but what you’re saying is the very reason why I feel sorry for you guys. You know maybe instead of just sitting there wishing for the world to end, you should try working harder. Help out your mom or something. My parents are pretty much doing all they can to stay afloat and I find myself having to help out more and more each day even when I need to study or want to do other things. Thus I don’t think you can keep saying to me I don’t know what poverty feels like. I’ve already seen enough from other people to get the gist.

Simply put, God gave you a body and a mind. What are you using it for?

Forgive me because people like your mother, are not who I am talking about,
Your mother sounds to me, as a light in darkness.
No one should have hurt her, or you or anyone in your family or anyone in your shoes.
It saddenes me to read this happenes amoung christians, yet- I know you will find very good christians here even if that is not much consolation to you at the moment.

Please understand, I found this thinking amoung non catholics, that is why I posted here.
I had no idea this could be a bad question to ask.

Maybe we can just table this one.

As far as work being holy, I like this saint called Josemaria Escriva., so far.🙂

Jesus said that nobody knows when the end will come.

He also said that if anybody claims that they do know, we should** not** listen to that person.
