hi, i have recently been going to confession, pretty much every other week, for the same thing, which makes about 10 times. anyway, i have been having trouble mith manipulating myself in an impure way, and watching bad stuff on the internet. my priest has never turned me down when i ask to confess these things…but im worried it may be getting a little old. hardly anyone else in my parish gos to confession after mass (sad i know) and im always thier to take up his time. i dont want him to be frustrated with me, it becomes harder to ask if i can go to confession every time. but what i want to know is this: dos he really forget my sins after i confess them? is it like hearing them for the first time?

thanks.

shouldn’t you be going to Reconciliation BEFORE Mass not afterward?

anyway–my priest does Confessions anonymously and he told me that unless someone reminds him specifically outside of the Sacrament that he has been given the gift of not remembering. He said it was an actual gift–so I don’t know if it happens to every priest. But you could ask.

Our pastor has said again and again that he’d be hard pressed to remember everything he hears in the confessional, and he never tries.

i try to go before mass, but sometimes the priest doesent have enough time, as he lives out of town, and barely has time to set up mass in the first place. but i do try.

It isn’t the priest’s place to judge you; if he does remember your confessions in particular, he probably also understands the problem you have can be a hard habit to overcome.

Actually it is. The Confessional is a tribunal, and the priest sits as both judge and physician. How else can a priest decide to absolve or retain, and impose a penance, if not as a judge?
I mean that, as a person, the priest cannot call you a bad person because of what you confess. (remove the beam from your own eye…)

what tim means is that its not the priests place to make a summary of how good of a person you are by what you tell him. yes, the priest in many ways is a judge, but he difinitley does not have the place to be opinionated.

Sounds to me like you need a sit down session with your priest. Habitual sin is an illness that effects the soul and unless taken care of can get you into a lot of trouble spiritually. Ask your priest how you can best ward off temptations to sin in general and this sin in particular. For the church is a hospital and a place where you can gain a cure from your sins. Place your confidence in the priest.
