Do Protestants believe that the Temple will get rebuilt?

Daniel 11 and Matthew 24 definitely refer to the Jerusalem Temple - although they don’t mention rebuilding it.

It is 2 Thessalonians in which I am doubtful that Paul is talking about the same temple - he probably means the seat of the Church.
It sounds as if the ones in Daniel 11:31 (who desecrate the temple) are the same who set up the abomination of desolation. Look:

11:31 “His armed forces will rise up to desecrate the temple fortress and will abolish the daily sacrifice. Then they will set up the abomination that causes desolation.

If you read on, Daniel parallels Paul’s words in 2 thes:

36 “The king will do as he pleases. He will exalt and magnify himself above every god and will say unheard-of things against the God of gods. He will be successful until the time of wrath is completed, for what has been determined must take place.

Again, I just don’t see any mention of Rome in all of this. It sounds like the events will go on in Jerusalem/Judea area.
And where does it say that Rome will be destroyed?
No where, I’m just asking if this is common belief in Catholicism that these events will be happening in Rome. I think Protestants tend to accept that Jerusalem will play the largest role in the end times.

It is impossible to say however, and really not that important. We know there will be an Anti-Christ and persecution will ensue, and we must keep our Faith in Jesus to get through it.

Sorry that is my mistake then. I thought you said Rome would be destroyed - I don’t think there is anything in the Bible that indicates such an event.

As for the temple being rebuilt, I don’t think Paul is talking about the Jerusalem Temple and John clearly says he is not. The others (Daniel/Matthew) do not talk about rebuilding anything at all.

Jesus is the Temple, how can any Catholic think otherwise and even ponder if a third temple should be built!!! Read Daniel 7 the forth Beast is Rome and all it’s bad emperors then it is given over to the Holy People of the most High. There is a very specific reason why God moved everthing, starting with Jesus being sacrificed outside Jersusalem why? the Jews were worshiping the Temple and they still do. also do you really think Jesus the King of the Jews would come back to an Isreal that denies he is the Messiah and who builds a Temple so they can start animal sacrifice again, totally ignoring the sacrifice he gave on the cross?? Come on if you are a Catholic this has to be basic!! The Temple has never been rebuilt for a reason and whenever it has been tried it has failed. This isn’t about Real Estate seriously the city Jersusalem denied God you really think he is come back to it? Also read Isaiah which prophesies Jesus’ rejection. It also isn’t right for Protestants to encorage the Third Temple being created so the Anti-Christ will come into and thus lead to the return of Jesus. The Church is the new Israel. Another thing, some rabbis are claiming that the Vatican is hiding the temple treasures like the Gold Menorah that the Romans took when they destroyed the Temple in 70 AD why on earth they think the Romans kept them or gave them to the Catholics is beyond me we were persecuted for 250 years after the Romans destroyed the Temple but the Israelis are insisting that they need to be given back so this is going to lead to some conflict at some point because we don’t have anything and they insist we do.

Protestants deny the authority of Rome and that the Church is the New Israel so of course they would incorrectly think Jerusalem would be where everything is going to happen. Honestly though do you think that Jesus the King of the Jews would return to the city and a state that denies he is the Messiah and wants to build a Third Temple to return to offering animal sacrifices denying the sacrifice he gave of His life? The Jewish State does not recognize Christians under the “right of return” pretty sure that’s going to be a problem if the Messiah is supposed to come back for us.

The millenialist interpretation is exactly the same expectation that the Jews had in their expectation of what a Messiah would do. They want a political military Messiah, a restored kingdom of Israel to glory, a restored Temple, acceptable sacrifices and an acceptable Priesthood and an acceptable people.

Obviously the interpretation of prophecies was incorrect, Jesus didn’t do all that on his first manifestation, He did something far, far greater. He established the Kingdom of God the way it was supposed to and intended to be, with the Temple proper being in Heaven. So all the prophecies that speak of His first manifestation have been postponed to His second in the eyes of the millenialist. Even though the writers of the NT take certain prophecies that should technically apply to His second manifestation, and apply to what He did in his first manifestation.

As you rightly point out, that would be a step backward, not forward. We would be returning to the OT, and deleting the NT as a temporary (even though better) period.

Looking at this thread, I begin to wonder if theres a infinitely small chance that last battle will be between those that have differing beliefs about the time, place and manor of the last battle.

Now where is my ploughshare and what has happened to my pruning fork?

I find no coincidence that Protestants use the Jewish Old Testament canon not the Catholic Old Testament and also deny Christ in the Eucharist at the same time. Heaven and earth become one at the sacrifice of the mass. Scott Hahn’s The Lamb’s Supper explains perfectly what exactly is happening at mass and if Protestants and quite a few Catholics realized what is happening their face would be on the floor. It’s probably also why Protestants look like the Tower of Babel and have 42,000 denominations in this country alone who all believe something different while the Catholic Church is all over the world has over a billion people and everyone attending mass or reading daily scripture today will read the exact same thing and the order of the mass is exactly the same everywhere on earth – the Catholic Church is either divine or an organizational genius.

Good point. The center of Christianity is no longer Jerusalem, it is the Church in Rome. Christians should just forget about the Temple in Rome - that belongs to an older dispensation that has been superceded by Jesus and the Church.

There may not be an actual battle. However, I do think there will be a division in the Church. When the Christ finally returns (which I personally believe could happen soon), there will be many in the Church who will not accept him because these strange beliefs about the Third Temple and the Anti-Christ going there etc will not have been fulfilled.

There may be a major schism within the Church hierarchy itself where some members of the clergy are on one side and some on the other. They may not actually fight a battle, but there may be a split into two separate Churches.

You can argue the Reformation did this and meets this requirement but in His mercy, God is allowing time to come together before the Last Judgment because as the Bible says a 10,000 years is like one day to God. Catholics also believe that before Jesus comes back, the Jews will convert so I believe there is still some time for mankind but I wouldn’t ever bank on waiting and not being prepared. I am not a 100% sure about what exactly Saint Faustina was told I will have to pull the book out of her diary which the Catholic Church has said to be authentic but I believe that the stars fall out of the sky and we are in darkness and cross appears, I would have to believe that if the sun disappeared and a cross appeared in the sky, a lot of people would convert.

This isn’t about rejecting Rome’s authority. It is about a blood covenant with the people Israel. A Blood Covenant is unbreakable . Replacement theology is in error.

God gave the land to the jews forever. And forever means forever. Do you realize that Jesus had to die? If the jews had fully accepted Him, there would have been no cross as prophesied ( a must!). No cross, no grafting of the gentiles unto the olive tree, no forgiveness of sin, no messiah.

The time is coming for the jews to see and accept their messiah and that will be at His Second Coming. And He shall sit upon David’s Throne in the Temple in Jerusalem.
Scripture says that those who “pray for the peace of Jerusalem” shall be blessed.

All nations will be judged as to how they treated His Chosen, the Jewish people.

Again, this is not about Rome. It is about God keeping His Promise. And what is prophecy will be fulfilled.

Oh that happens after the battle. During the 1000 years of perfect peace with King Jesus ruling with His Rod of Iron from Jerusalem.

Actually, there is one more battle, after Satan is released for a little while and he is joined with rebels to war against Jesus. Nice try, but of course it is Written he loses and get thrown into the Lake of Fire.
The earth is purged by fire and we enter into peaceful eternity.

I was not aware of this belief that Jews will convert before the Second Coming - is this belief supported by the Church? I am afraid this is not going to happen. In fact I think many orthodox Jews will reject him again even the second time around - they expect a Jewish Moschiach and he will definitely not be jewish. In fact I believe he will be pretty secular - meaning he will not support any specific religion over another - that is another reason why many Christians will reject him.

I don’t mean to be facetious or irreverent, but I think I will write a book saying God prefers me to everyone else and he has promised me beach front property in California. I hope I can count on your support?🙂

Nooo, I am sorry. But good luck!

Most Protestants do believe the Temple will be rebuilt a third time. There are more and more Jews now returning to Israel as believers in Christ as the One and Only Messiah. More and more non-believers are being converted to Christianity. Items are currently being made exactly as depicted in the Bible in preparation for the rebuilding of the Temple.

Only God will determine where, when, and how Christ will return to earth and serve as King over all for 1000 years.

I believe it will be just as the Bible describes. After all, it is what God wants that will be done.

Doxiemom…I do have several questions for you…one that I have been seeking an answer:

a). Does Satan know the content of the book of Revelation/Bible and know he will lose in the end?

b). If Satan does know…then why would Satan go to the charade of going to battle only to lose? I mean, if the outcome is already known…why go through it?

c). If Satan is indeed going to loose, why has not God already defeated Satan? Why is there a need to go through the charade of Armageddon?

Jesus is ruling now with a rod of iron on the throne of his father David Acts 2:29-36. Also the saints are ruing with a rod of iron, because they had a part in the first resurrection. What is the first resurrection? Well that was the resurrection of Jesus, the first from the dead, and we take part, in that resurrection.

If you read Revelation again you will see that there is a preparation for battle but no battle, and in one instance fire comes down from heaven and consumes them. That is not a battle.
