Do Protestants celebrate Lent? If so what do you do during Lent. If not how do you prepare for Easter (that is if you believe in Easter Sunday).

yes they do
of course Protestants believe in Easter Sunday, and some even get the day of the crucifixion right (it’s wednesday not friday)

Anglicans do. Calvinists, OTOH, or those of them who subscribe to the Westminster Confession of Faith, are most unlikely to - they are as concerned to preserve “godly order” in Christian worship as Catholics or Anglicans; which is why they observe set forms of worship, but (unlike Catholics or Anglicans) don’t have a festal cycle.
So it seems that we have the curious fact that some Churches which are even less concerned with set forms than Calvinism, resemble Catholics & Anglicans in observing at least some of the festivals in the festal cycle.Which goes to show that one Protestant Church can be less Catholic in some respects than another, while being more like Catholicism than that Protestant Church in another respect. ##

Hi,
I know the reformed churches of America do and episcopals do.
Im not sure if the baptist’s do. When I went to a baptist church the only thing I remember is the minister fasting for 40 days. We were not required to do anything unless we wanted.
In my non-denom church we do not follow it as dogmatic as other churches do. My minister says where the bible is dogmatic then we are. Where the bible is not dogmatic then we arent. Since Lent is not a biblical requirement our church does not follow it as a church but if the individual would like to that is fine.

I’m currently attending the Assembly of God church here but I go to the local Episcopal church for Lent services. AoG as far as I know is not against individuals observing Lent but do not hold services for it. Generally, there will be special services for Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday only at the AoG.

When I played in an orchestra for a Presbyterian Youth Group, some of the girls (all Presbyterians) said that they couldn’t have any soda to drink because they gave it up for Lent. So I guess at least SOME Presbyterians do.

A Lutheran parish in my neighbourhood has Lenten Services on Wednesday nights. They also are having Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services.

I think most Protestant churches have some kind of Lenten observance.
In the last ten or twenty years some appreciation of the major seasons of the Church year has become more common even in churches where such things had been, for the most part unheard of.
A Baptist Church near me has a Good Friday Tenebrae service that is, easily, the best of its kind that I have ever attended. These aren’t liberal American Baptists either. Both pastors are Bob Jones U. boys.
As has been noted, Anglicans, Lutherans and Methodists have always observed Lent as a penitential season in preparation for Easter.

I am observing Lent for the first time this year.
The Methodist church across the street from me held an Ash Wednesday service with imposition of ashes, which I attended. During this time, I have been (through the grace of God) abstaining from meat, fish, and wine. Last year, Easter preparations also included a total fast for Holy Saturday.
And yes, Protestants believe in the Resurrection and celebrate Easter Day. We are Christians, why wouldn’t we?

I just asked my friend, who goes to an Assemblies of God church, if they observed Lent, and she stared at me for a minute and told me that if it weren’t for me (a RC), she wouldn’t even remember there WAS a Liturgical year.
Don’t know if this was a comment on her devotion, the particular church’s focus, or AoG in general, but she was sure that her specific AoG church didn’t mention it, let alone observe it.
She used to work in a Methodist church, which DID observe Lent. Again, down here in the Bible Belt, there’s a lot of independent spirit in Protestant denominations, so I am leery to assume that any practice is normal for any Protestant denomination given the actions of a single church.

This is why I attend a different church for Lent. People who grew up in AoG often have no idea what Lent is much less observe it.
If you want to know which Protestants observe Lent I’d say it’s safe to bet that the liturgical churches do while most others do not.

You are correct. I have family and friends who are Methodist and Lutheran. They do observe Lent. They also have Ash Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday Services; plus all their other special services such as Wednesday night services for Lent.

Before I became Catholic I attended an A/G church. We did not follow Lent or any liturgical calendar.

Sorry, but the crucifixion took place of Friday 3rd April, 33AD. There was a lunar eclipse that day to prove it.

A Wednesday crucifixion is a foolish argument that some Saturday Sabbath keepers use to try and win support for their cause (continuing the argument that Jesus was resurrected on a Saturday).

I have never heard of that before. After all Christianity is because of Good Friday and Easter and what happened. Without Easter we wouldnt have christianity.
Who are these Fundies? Do they have a name/denom? Maybe they are just a very small amount and they happen to live near you.
