hello:

I know some people like religiosu yard statues because they look nice, which they do:)

I was wondering, do religious yard statues also give special protection for someones house if they are blessed (i.e. mary, St. Michael, etc)?

thanks!

Hello and thanks for posting- I think is always good to keep religious articles, especially blessed ones, around our house. I think blessed items do ward off evil and they do give us extra blessings in a certain sense. I’m not sure what the exact Church teaching on this. I do think that religious statues help us to fix our eyes on God. I would think perhaps this would be the primary purpose and not simply to ‘do’ anything for us. I know when I see a saint statue it’s a gentle reminder that God worked in that saints life and that saint cooperated with the Grace that God gave him or her. May we all becomes saints one day!

I don’t place much stock about religious statues in your yard doing anything. They’re just statues which express your faith, and should not be thought of as being like trinkets pagans would use out of superstitious beliefs.

However, my statue of the Blessed Mother use to keep the Jehovah’s Witnesses away. 😃

No longer works for some reason, a couple came to my door last fall.

Some say that the statues may protect against evil and terrible things. However, that starts to border on superstition. I would rather keep these things as a reminder of your faith and for decoration. If they do in fact provide those graces, then great. If not, then I wouldn’t put much stock into that.

I have had religious pictures/statues/crucifixes, but I don’t have them to “work”. They are there as a reminder of my faith, to help me focus when I pray. I don’t expect the statues to do anything.

If they are outside, they may be a form of evangelizing, but that’s mainly it. I personally don’t expect anything from them. Although, some say that places we keep an image of the Divine Mercy, etc., we would receive a blessing on that house. If that’s the case, then maybe there would be an outside benefit to having these statues.

They are good to have in any case, also because they’re so beautiful!
🙂

As Jim says statues in of themselves don’t do anything. They aren’t magic talismans. Any benefit is from the prayers of those that see them and pray.

I will agree that statues can discourage certain types of door to door missionary calls. We seem to have drastically fewer calls from Mormons, JW, and even Democrats since we put statues of Our Lady and St Francis in our front flower beds. 😉

I agree with Jim.

*Any *action you take to say “I stand with God” or “I put my faith in God” will “work”.

Nah. They are not magic, and if you think that way, just the opposite will come about.
Honestly, I don’t know a single person who thinks that way, though. I think the anti-Catholics are so vocal about these things that they have us fearing the tools of grace that God gave us.

No one knows what is in your heart but God.
Is God calling you to honor Him publicly?
If so, then absolutely a statue in your yard will “work”.

The statue in my yard doesn’t work. I still have to mow my own lawn and trim my own hedges…

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. 😃

Maybe it’s the wrong one? 😉
Who’s the patron Saint of Lawn care and maintenance? 😃
