this is the second time this week I have heard this reference to Gabriel as being the Holy Spirit and I have never heard it before. Someone on a group I am on actually claimed that the Greek term used for when Gabriel ‘came unto’ Mary was sexual in nature and Gabriel was the father of Christ! (as the Holy Spirit?) I was flabbergasted.

Muslims either believe that Gabriel is the “Holy Spirit” OR that Christians mistakenly confuse Gabriel and the Holy Spirit. I am not sure which one. One of my Muslim friends has said both at different times, so I guess he really doesn’t know either.

how do they get that?

I wish I knew why Muslims choose to believe ANYTHING that they do. 🤷

I can’t believe I got no responses (except Exo) from this! I was shocked! I still want to know why people believe this and does anyone else besides Moslems? What’s up? No one interested but me?

I think it’s the Muslims who get Gabriel confused with the Holy Spirit. They can’t seem to decide if they are one being or two. And I think they believe Gabriel impregnated Mary, under orders from God. I guess to avoid that whole Trinity business. You know, about God having no sons. It’s all very confusing. And kind of creepy…

The problem is not that Muslims think this, but that they claim that Almighty God told Mohammed this?

How can Muslims believe God dictated the Quran when there exists mistakes like this? God is perfect.

It is a mistake to either believe that Gabriel is the Holy Spirit or to think that Christians believe this.

Many of the cults, such as the JWs and Mormons, do not believe that Jesus is God. Therefore, to follow through on this in their interpretation of scripture, they assume that Mary IS NOT the mother of God, Jesus, but of the man only. Therefore it only follows naturally that when Gabriel came to announce miraculous birth, he was talking about himself infusing Mary with his flesh and therefore being born in this world as Jesus. Yes, their belief (i’m still trying to make complete sense out of it!) is that Gabriel was “the holy spirit” who became the man Jesus. That is why, they believe that Jesus was originally the angel Gabriel (especially the JWs) and now the Holy Spirit is something impersonal like a radar beam!!!

Hi

To begin with , it seems, all these were only personal inferences/deduction of some erratic religionists, in my opinion, and later they were opted as BELIEFS.

For a belief it is essential that it should be supported be straightforward many clear passages/verses from the BOOK (in your case it would be NTBible) as a CLAIM and many clear and straightforward passages/verses for the REASON thereof and nothing should be against it.

JWs and Mormons and others if any, are right as they don’t find anything of this sort in the NTBible. This is my opinion only, you may verify it for yourself.

Thanks

Wow. This one is interesting. So, when Jesus breathed on the apostles and they received the Spirit, that was Gabriel? Nope. Gabriel is an angel. The Holy Spirit is the paraclete. God vs. not God.

I was a JW and they do NOT believe Gabriel is Jesus, they believe MICHAEL is Jesus’ heavenly persona. I was also Mormon very briefly and as far as I can remember they do not believe Gabriel was the Holy Spirit or Jesus either. I think they believe Michael became Adam, if I am not mistaken. This is why this was so shocking to me, I had never heard it before.
