Do temptations always involve an "inner voice?"

I’m very suspicious of inner voices and I believe they result from external spirits, such as angels. As inner states of consciousness change, so too does the inner voice.
 
Not necessarily. They can come from our desires for almost anything: money, power, pleasure, prestige, possessions…

You may not be aware of it but all of the temptations you listed comes along with an inner voice. For example, the inner voice characteristic of pride can be an antecedent for all the desires you listed.

If you’re an orthodox Freudian, which I assume you’re not (and neither am I), temptations involve three inner voices: the id, the ego, and the superego, as well as the voices of the ego defense mechanisms.

There are so many components of Freud that you can accept some and reject others. I have often admired the notion of the ego, id, and superego and I think they fit into what I’m talking about… Where I disagree with Freud is that I believe these voices are external to the body. Freud would say that they are just a byproduct of the brain.
 
Its a possibility - we don’t know how exactly the spiritual world correlates with our physical one. There could be events going on in the spiritual world that do influence our thoughts, especially since that’s the closest-related embodiment of ourselves to our spiritual sides.
 
Temptations I never hear voices. It’s just a seriously powerful urge that is almost overwhelming. Yet despite this it never gets so string that it overshadows the one voice that I do hear. It quietly reminds me that I am a faithful catholic and as such I should not be doing this. I’m not saying i’m perfect, far from it, there are times I ignore the voice, but let me tell you the guilt I feel afterwards makes me want to break down and beg God for forgiveness.
