Do the diocesan priest's promises to the bishop end with the bishop's death?

Question:

After a Bishop dies, for how long are the priests of the diocese bound by their promise to obey? Do they have the “until death do us part” statement in their promises?

Dear Scap,

When a man is ordained he promises obedience to his ordinary—whoever his ordinary is or will be. His allegiance is not to the person of the bishop, but to the office he holds as ordinary of the diocese. Should the bishop move to another diocese, the priest’s allegiance remains with the bishop’s successor.
