I have heard before that the Catholic position on murder is something like “one can only kill another to stop something worse from happening”. First off, is this true?
And if so, then is it true to say that the ends DO justify the means, provided that the means do not override the cause?
I have never really been to sure on this subject, since my philosophy on this has always been “there is a way to come out of this clean”, so I would always look for the option in life where you don’t have to lie or steal, etc. Is there a conceivable situation where one would HAVE to lie, etc. in order to achieve good, without overriding the end?
