Do those born before Christ have an equal chance at salvation?

I have always wondered about this…

seems that God would give them an equal chance… .by having them get to know Jesus “after the fact” as it were… in the afterlife…

but not sure the Church teaches this kind of thing???

Most any scriptural church teaches the truth about those in the OT.

God made a covenant with Abraham. Paul mentions this in the third chapter of Romans. Those in the OT were “saved” by grace just as we are but it was Jesus’ death on the cross that paid for their sins as well as ours. God gave them this forbearance until Christ could come and pay for their sins so that they could avoid punishment even though Christ had not yet died for them.

It was by faith that Abraham was justified and the OT mentions Christ many times. Those believers of the OT were saved when Jesus died but were justfied when they believed.

what about people who didn’t believe in the God of Abraham…

what about the Egyptians, for example??
 
They must have a chance. God made all creation with a chance.
 
Why do you think that St. John the Baptist was beheaded sometime before the Crucifixion?

It was PRECISELY in God’s providence so he could tell the spirits in prison that the Messiah was coming.

We have nothing to indicate that there is any hope for them. During that time, Christ only dealt with Israel and no one else. It was only after He converted Paul that any gentile could be saved. The OT promise was made only to Abraham and his descendents.

yes we do… 1 John 4:8: God is love.

it makes no sense that God would create humans who had no chance to avoid Hell…

i didn’t think Lutherans were THAT far from Catholics on… most things… :hmmm::coffeeread::hmmm:

Really? What is it Peter said about Christ, after his death but before his resurrection, preaching to the souls in hades???

Jesus preached the Good News to the dead in limbo during Black Saturday. after which He led them into heaven
 
We have to look at Holy Saturday where Jesus descended into hell and freed the souls of the just.

Hell is not like they were condemned or punished…I saw Choy’s use of limbo…no offense…thought they stopped using it…

They would say the just were denied heaven until Christ freed them and they could see God and await for Him in peace and hope.
