Well since I doubt God is on his computer, I usually delete mine.
I doubt the person behind the email is truly religious. People on my list know how I am and the ones that don’t get an email back from me.

I get a lot of, “Are you ashamed of God? Didn’t God say don’t deny him infront of people or he will deny you infront of his father?”

You are not denying God by not passing on an email. You are simply, not passing on an email. Now if you pass up an opportunity to help someone out or truly stand up for your faith, well that’s denying God.

Was it not also written to not wear our religion on our shoulder? To not pray in the middle of the street to boast, but to pray alone?
I’m not saying praying anywhere is not right, i’m just saying people shouldn’t pray to gain attention from others.

I find these irritating also. Simply stated, my faith does not depend on my forwarding an E-mail to ten people.

Oh yeah, they do annoy me!

They never get a reply. And I always try to warn people that I don’t even open FWD’s in my mail box. They go straight to the garbage.

The most “wonderful” thing about these weird habits, is that there are people that would forward all those stupid e-mails, as if their faith and salvation would depend on that - ridiculous, stupid superstition, which is a sin, by itself - but they would never go every Sunday and other day of obligation to Mass.

Well, some of them are really nice and can be inspiring and can serve as daily reminders for christians and i enjoy them, however, the part where u HAVE TO forward it to people on your conotact list is annoying and the only thing that should be banned are CHAIN LETTERS of any form or type, religous or not…

Sometimes, i send prayers and Bible quotes to my friends, as a little inspiration or reminder, if they choose to forward it to another friend who they think could use some inspiring in their lives is entirely up to them.

These I can almost stand, but I absolutely hate the ones that ask you to forward to 10 of your friends AND back to the original sender, as if they are going to check up on you, all with a heavy dose of guilt laid on folks that “won’t forward God’s word”.

And to top it all off, there’s a link to the original sender’s website where they are selling absolute junk!

Ticks me off!!!

Well, as someone who averages 100+ work related emails per day, I don’t agree with you that it is “stupid and frivolous.” However, I do agree with the general sentiment that those inspiring missives and aggressive chain letters are unwelcome and annoying.

I don’t understand your response. I was commenting that I find email useful and necessary to my occupation. Additionally, I dislike the types of emails that were the topic of discussion in this thread.

The Christian Urban Legends are the ones that most irritate me. For example, I got many emails in the late 90’s about Madalyn Murray O’Hair’s trying to get “Touched By An Angel” cancelled. It was horrible and we should all contact CBS to show our support, etc. O’Hair had been missing for years by that time and it later turned out she was dead, but never let facts get in the way of a good story.

I find that sort of thing annoying & depressing in equal measure It*** ought*** to be blindingly obvious that if someone hears “voices” saying “Kill your children”, or “sees” a Saint in a puddle, a knee, or fence-post, they are seeing what is not there or hearing what isn’t. As the news shows again & again, it is not obvious at all. Yet a very slight knowledge of the Bible should make it very clear that the Biblical God is a moral being & takes a dim view of child-killing. So He is not terribly likely to advocate it. To say the least.​

Worst of all, it’s terrifying that that such stupid forms of religion should be so influential in the politics of so powerful a country as the USA is. For Dispensationalists to control the Bomb is bad news indeed. People are pretty witless & gullible anyway - but certain forms of religion aggravate their weaknesses. (Brainless atheism is no improvement.)

If people worshipped the Teletubbies, the emails would reflect that by being messages from La-La, Tinky Winky, & Po instead. Since in fact God is the worshipped figure, people concoct messages that claim to be from God. What the adherents of the Jedi religion do when they receive these missives, they alone know.

As to how: Because some people are gullible, their more astute fellow-men are able to prey on their gullible neighbours. Religious gullibility is a very ancient & very effective source of wealth. Those who prey on the gullible, in religion or in anything else, are the very last people who are going to be kept awake at night by scruples over the morality of impersonating God. What do they care ? The idea that cheats, liars, defrauders, deceivers are racked by guilt at pretending to be God in order to gain money from others is laughable.

Yeah, I know. It’s bad enough that people use God’s name as a swear word, but this is an even worse way to take God’s name in vain, IMHO.

Also, the guilt trip thing really annoys me - if you don’t spam your address book with this hokey, blasphemous tripe, you don’t love God enough? Give me a break!

And that kid who got sick and needed cards and letters from total strangers to make him feel better? He’s recovered, now. In fact, he’s forty five years old, raising his own teenagers, and would like for the “get well” cards to stop, please, and thank you, peace out, and all that. :doh2:

If someone I never heard of said, send me an e-mail forwarded to all your friends, i would think, What do you want with my friends’ e-mail addresses?

3 years ago back in my techy days someone forwarded (in work) a great comeback to those, I LOST IT! It was so funny… .it’s sad because there’s so much junk that gets forwarded. Yeah, I think I remember a few saying that God wanted me to forward this email… um… ?? I don’t think so!

yes, they majorly bother me
so does anyone who claims to speak for God as in:
It was God’s will your baby died
It was God’s will that you lost your job
It was God’s will that your husband abandoned you.

today’s first reading captures my thought exactly: so far above are ways are God’s ways as the mountains above the seas. the appalling arrogance of someone who claims to speak for God, unless they are one anointed by God himself as his prophet, always amazes me.
