Do vitamins break the one hour fast before Communion? Would it depend at all on whether they were used nutritionally (to supplement a diet) or medicinally (as an alternative to traditional medicine)?

The only exceptions to the Communion fast are water and medicine. If the vitamins are medicine, they can be taken. If they are a meal supplement, then I would recommend checking with your physician to find out the consequences of fasting from the vitamin before Communion. If it is a meal supplement that must be taken on a regular basis with health consequences if a dosage is not taken at an exact time, then it could be considered medicinal. If it doesn’t matter what time you take the vitamin and there are not health consequences to postponing it, then it seems that a meal supplement could be taken before or after the Communion fast. Again, check with your physician for his advice.
