Do we actually bless God

I am not sure this is the right place to ask this question but in any case here goes.
During the stations of the cross a prayer said before each station consist of the following: “We adore you o Christ and we bless you because by thy holy cross you have redeemed the world.”
My question is, does one really bless God? And what are we blessing God with, is it our appreciation, good works, obedience? And are such things really a blessing?

It is a good question. One that I have also recently pondered. When singing the Gloria we say; “We praise You, we BLESS You, we adore You…”… and I was thinking how can I “bless” God??

As martin pointed out in those definitions - the word “bless” can be used in various ways.

So in the examples that you and I gave then it is used meaning that we are honoring God and glorifying Him.
