If you’re going to “go there”, I would note that in some countries (not USA, but Ireland and Australia), St. Patrick’s Day is a solemnity (and it’s an HDO in Ireland) and thus would be a day of feasting even though it’s in Lent.No, the Latin Church doesn’t impose a particular mandatory discipline of fasting or abstinence, but canon law still defines all the weekdays of Lent as universal days of penance. So while we may have feasted today, the liturgical “spirit” of the day is more one of fasting than feasting.
