Do we get a Patron Saint when we become Catholic?

I’m a former Anglican wanting to become Catholic and just wondering do we get assigned patron Saints, or do we choose them? How does it work?

I want my saint to be St Gemma Galgani because she has the same name as me

When you go through RCIA, you get to decide whether you want a patron saint, commonly known as your Baptismal Name.

You are not assigned a saint, you are allowed to pick whoever you wish. You can even decide not to have one if you chose.
