I have been greatly inspired by the story of the courageous and holy men and women who fought to defend their Faith and rights in the Vendee region of France during the French Revolution. Does anyone know if we commemorate them on the liturgical calendar? If so who, what, when, where, and why info. Thank you!

There are entire groups of Vendean martyrs that await Beatification and my guess is that what is slowing things down is the “political implications” for their deaths i.e. countering the French Revolution.

In one case, a group of 110 children in the Vendee have a Canonization Cause. They were placed on a raft by revolutionary soldiers and then floated out into deep water where they eventually all drowned. They were killed simply because they were in the Vendee and were pious Catholics - the youngest among them was barely a year old.

Their emblem, as we know, was the Sacred Heart on a white badge (a form of the same emblem that those Catholics who opposed Henry VIII in England wore during the “Pilgrimage of Grace”).

We should promote their canonization, to be sure. Many French Catholis fly the Vendean Sacred Heart flag and the Vendee civil government itself has a flag/coat of arms with a stylized Heart (which is a combination of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary).
