Do We HAVE to Read the Bible/Daily Readings Everyday?

I often try to do the daily readings, but some days I am drowning in college homework (taking 5 classes leaves you with basically no free time) and I don’t get around to reading the readings.

So here’s my question: are we obliged to read the bible/daily readings everyday? Thanks! 🙂

Why would you think you are “obliged” to read the Bible or Daily readings is the question you need to ask yourself and your SPIRITUAL DIRECTOR! Have you made any attempt to get one yet?

Nope. I haven’t made any attempt to get a spiritual director yet, as I am far to busy and I don’t feel I really need one all that much.

Your question just proves to me that there is a need.

If you are not so busy that you can worry about what you are “obliged” to do, you are not too busy to talk to a spiritual director.

Based on your many questions…you need at least a good continuing conversion class, IMHO.

You have many misconceptions. You are often asking what is the bare minimum to being a practicing Catholic.

Be close to Christ. To do this, one must continue to learn about Him.
Reading a small bit of Scripture daily (even a psalm a day) won’t inhibit anyone’s education.
Why would you believe that God would allow you to fail if you were making an effort to get to know His Word? That’s a contradiction of the goodness of God.
 
Read when you have the time. It’s good you’re trying to.
 
I had to drop class due to illness. I still had time when I was in class, to Pray and read the Bible. Take an hour out of your day to pray and read scripture. St. Jerome said “Ignorance of Scripture is ignorance of Christ”. I don’t know about you, but I want to know Jesus.
 
I read the Bible every day – I have “The One Year Bible - Catholic Edition” and each day it has readings from the Old Testsment – the Psalms – Epistles – New Testament, etc.,etc.
I think I’ve been reading it for a couple of years but I read it at night before I turn out the light. Some of those readings from the Old Testament raises the hair on my head.

So true.

And let’s face it, 15 credits really isn’t all that much unless you’re packed full of 400 level science classes.
 
Let’s give the guy a break, nobody needs to be forced to read the bible but if you feel like you can get some time in donso, I go through periods where I read and times when I don’t

It’s not the reading of scripture that most of us are reacting to:L It’s his continual attitude of “what’s the bare minimum that I can do and be a Catholic?”
Posting history shows this.
 
I like a saying a first heard from Fr. Larry Richards: “No Bible no breakfast, no Bible no bed.” Works for me.
